IRISH show jumpers emerged as the leading riders in both the five and three-star divisions at last weekend’s Stephex Masters show in Brussels, Belgium.

Co Tipperary’s Denis Lynch won the five-star division and drove away in a brand new Stephex two-horse truck. Waterford’s Peter Moloney collected the same prize when topping the three-star show.

Lynch’s best placing came in Friday’s 1.45m aboard RMF Fairview (Alimo x Quidam de Revel) when they finished third with a clear round in 59.25 to collect €3,700. Victory went to The Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten and Dana Blue (0/0 57.71).

Lynch was the sole Irish rider to make it through to the jump-off in Sunday’s €300,000 1.60m Grand Prix, presented by Audi. Lynch rode his new mount The Sinner, a 10-year-old gelding owned by Zach Lukas and Onyx Consulting Ltd, who Lynch took over from Czech Republic’s Kamil Papousek in July.

The six-horse jump-off didn’t go Lynch’s way and he finished in sixth place with seven faults, but still collected €13,500.

FASTEST OF THE FOUR

Germany’s Marcus Ehning proved once again just how good he is when he galloped to the fastest of four double clear rounds with the brilliant Comme Il Faut, an incredible four seconds ahead of Sweden’s Douglas Lindelöw and Zacremento. America’s Lauren Hough placed fourth with Waterford.

Offaly’s Darragh Kenny, who was sadly ruled out of the World Equestrian Games this week, guided the 12-year-old stallion Balou du Reventon to ninth place with the second fastest four-fault round. That combination finished third in Friday’s 1.55m Grand Prix qualifier, taking home €13,815.

Peter Moloney guided Team Harmony’s 10-year-old gelding Crumley (Cassus 2 x As di Villagana) to second place in Saturday’s three-star 1.45m, just beaten by less than a second by Belgium’s Dominique Hendrickx. Paul O’Shea finished fourth aboard Skara Glen’s Presence.
