DARRAGH Kenny topped a great week for his string and the Irish contingent at the three-star show in Vilamoura, Portugal, when placing second in the Grand Prix with C’est Beau (Calido I x Grannus).

Riding Jorge Matte’s nine-year-old bay gelding, Kenny was one of six clears in the first round of the 1.50m Longines ranking Grand Prix. Just three riders managed to produce a second clear in the timed round.

Kenny was pipped at the post by the 22-year-old Dutch rider Kevin Jochems with Captain Cooper (Namelus R x Corland) in a time of 36.45 seconds.

He was just behind him in 36.52, to collect €5,000. Britain’s Emma Stoker slotted into third place with Townhead Campus (0/0 37.68).

Kenny was victorious in the previous day’s three-star 1.40m with the grey Clinton-sired stallion Charming Fellow Z. Previously ridden by America’s Laura Kraut, Kenny guided the eight-year-old to the fastest clear of 36.99 seconds in the 10-horse jump-off.

The pair also jumped a clear in Friday’s 1.30m to place sixth.

In Friday’s 1.45m two-phase, the Offaly man rode the stunning black stallion Sandetto (Sandro Boy x Chellano Z) to third place with a double clear in 25.08 seconds, picking up just over €3,500.

Harry Marshall was just one place behind him with the 10-year-old stallion Chirokko M in 25.11. He had earlier placed second in the 1.35m with Claudio (Indoctro x VDL Corland).

Young Jeremy Sweetnam continues to impress in Europe and he won last Wednesday’s seven-year-old 1.35m class with Cap 4 (Comme Il Faut x Lanjonker), as well as finished third with Can Fly 20 (Chacco-Blue x Canto).
