LIMERICK’s Paul Kennedy picked up a win at the two-star show in Sentower Park, Belgium, last weekend with Dave Quigley’s Luikan Q.

Kennedy, who is based at Quigley’s Shropshire yard for the summer months and Sentower Park for much of the winter, guided the Luidam-sired eight-year-old gelding to the top place in Saturday’s 1.35m Table A.

The combination beat 55 other starters when posting a clear round in a time of 61.51 seconds. Germany’s Thomas Brandt was second with Cassimo 6 (62.90). Kildare’s Edward Doyle Jnr slotted into third place with the Billy Stud’s eight-year-old Billy Salsa (Billy Mexico x Billy Congo) in 63.55.

On Sunday, Kennedy followed up that win with another clear and third place finish in the 1.40m. That class was won by Columbia’s Santiago Diaz Ortega and HBR Dance.

RYAN SECOND

Tipperary’s Thomas Ryan picked up almost €5,000 when finishing second in Saturday’s 1.45m at the Belgian venue. He guided his own gelding Quite Zero (Quite Capitol x Langraf I) to a clear round in the jump-off in a time of 44.93 seconds.

Mayo’s Jack Dodd also produced a double clear in 48.24 with Belmonde to place sixth in the class won by Belgium’s Nathan Budd and Balder van de Katelijnkouter (43.76).

For the second week in a row, young rider Jenny Rankin won the five and six-year-old class with the Irish Sport Horse Galway Bay Pandora (by Peter Pan). Rankin produced a clear round in 49.74 seconds with the Justin Burke-bred mare to tie for the top place with Britian’s Nicole Pavitt.

Co Louth’s Kevin Thornton finished fifth with the seven-year-old mare Maddison (0/0 52.24).
