McCoppin in form

LONGFORD’s Dereck McCoppin picked up a win and a number of good places at last week’s Spanish sunshine tour. The British-based rider won Sunday’s 1.35m Accumulator class with the Irish Sport Horse Whiterock Lady (Douglas x Touchdown), scoring the maximum points in 54.90 seconds. McCoppin was second in Saturday’s 1.30m Table A with a quick clear in 61.56. He later rode Zaire (Indoctro x Marlon) to a third place finish in the 1.40m (0/0 29.77).

Broderick wins

TIPPERARY’s Greg Broderick scored another four-star Irish win in Spain last Sunday when landing the 1.40m two-phase aboard Veronica Tracy’s Daify (Numero Uno x Calvados), stopping the clock in 28.43 seconds in the jump-off. Wexford’s Bertram Allen and Christy Jnr (Indoctro x Clinton) took the runner-up position (0/0 29.50). Broderick’s win was following a second place finish with the nine-year-old mare in Saturday’s 1.40m Table A class (0/57.79), again just one place ahead of Allen and Christy Jnr in third, while Trevor Coyle was seventh aboard Gravity Of Greenhills.

Broderick had another top finish with the eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse Alberta Mist (Womanizer x Lisa), who was second in Sunday’s 1.30m. Winner of the 2014 five-year-old championship in Dublin, Alberta Mist was clear in 62.10 seconds behind Britain’s Alison Barton.

Turkington victory

TYRONE’s Emily Turkington claimed last Saturday’s 1.30m class in Spain with her own Irish Sport Horse Lissangle Luxzavella. Following a number of good placings last week, Turkington guided the nine-year-old Lux Z-sired gelding to the win with a clear round in 59 seconds.

Twomey third

CORK’s Billy Twomey finished third in Sunday’s 1.45m aboard Kimba Flamenco. Sired by his former mount, Je T’aime Flamenco, Twomey guided the eight-year-old to a clear round in 69.20, collecting €3,690. The class was won by Britain’s Harriet Nuttall and the Irish-bred Galway Bay Jed.

Roche wins on ISH

LUCINDA Roche jumped to the top in Oliva, Spain, landing last Saturday’s one-star 1.40m on the Irish Sport Horse WCE Falco (Cruising x Darco). The British-based rider beat off 42 others to post a time of 71.52 and win by 3.84 seconds. Roche then carried that form through to Sunday’s 1.40m, where she finished third with a double clear in 45.61 seconds, behind Belgium’s Canille Demolie and G-Star Du Cartier (0/0 44.78). Roche also finished fifth in Saturday’s one-star 1.30m aboard Izar LB (0/72.00)

Irish placed

DONEGAL’s Kenneth Graham guided the Irish Sport Horse mare Lenamore Lucy Lou to third place in Sunday’s three-star 1.35m Table A in Oliva. The nine-year-old Lux Z-sired mare jumped clear in 59.72 seconds behind Belgian winner Francois Jr Mathy and Uppercut De Bay (0/ 57.45).

Cavan’s Neal Fearon was second in Saturday’s three-star 1.30m aboard another ISH, Magic Cuidam (Luidam x Western Hope), clear in 62.15 seconds. Cork’s Shane O’Reilly was sixth with Connor VIII in the class won by Britain’s Jemma Kirk (0/ 61.42). O’Reilly finished third in the 1.35m Table C with Witro when clear in 62.79 seconds.

Duffy fourth

MAYO’s Michael Duffy finished fourth in the two-star 1.45m speed class in Kronenberg, Holland, aboard Lapuccino 2 (ISH), behind Britain’s Louise Saywell riding Dassler.The nine-year-old stallion by SIEC Livelllo is owned by Carl Hanley.

Three-star win

SLIGO’s Richard Howley continues his excellent run of form at the three-star show in Mijas, Spain, picking up another win in last Sunday’s 1.40m two-phase class with Calmond. Howley guided the 10-year-old son of Clarimo Ask to a double clear in 20.74 seconds to collect €2,000.
