Co Down’s Dermott Lennon picked up a number of top placings at the four-star Mereyside venue in Liverpool last weekend aboard Rebecca McGoldrick’s Fleur VI. Lennon guided the 11-year-old Chatman-sired mare to second place in the 1.40m two-phase competition on the opening day, where Irish riders filled four of the top 10 places. Galway’s Michael Duffy was fourth with Dreamer (0/0 30.38), Shane Breen slotted into sixth with Ispwich Van De Wolfsakker (0/0 36.83), while Billy Twomey and Pewit Nono finished in eighth position (0/0 37.64).
Lennon then picked up a sixth place finish in Monday’s 1.45m speed class aboard Fleur VI (0/ 55.68). The class was won by Germany’s Felix Hassmann and SI Brazonado (0/ 51.35). Meanwhile, the Banbridge show jumper also guided Valent (Hors La Loi II x Lux) to 10th place in Saturday’s 1.50m speed class.
Condon placed
WATERFORD’s Anthony Condon was the highest placed Irish rider in last Sunday’s 1.45m speed class with his and Kat Taylor’s Balzac (Oklund x Frisbee Kerellec). The talented 10-year-old gelding jumped a lovely clear round in 54.41 seconds in the class won by German rider Felix Hassman and Sl Brazonado (0/ 51.47).
Hadley fifth
GALWAY’s Sven Hadley placed fifth in Sunday’s under 25 Championship with Jarlath Fahy’s Irish Sport Horse Summas Taloubet (by Taloubet VDL). Hadley guided the 12-year-old to a double clear round in 36.71 seconds.
Britain’s Annabel Shields landed the class aboard her Balmoral Grand Prix-winning mount Wet Wet Wet (0/0 27.68).
Sligo’s Richard Howley had the second fastest time of the day with Chinook III (27.81) but one fence down saw him finish in eighth place.

SLIGO’s Richard Howley guided Chinook to second place in Monday’s Under 25 Grand Prix at the Liverpool International Horse Show with a clear round in 33.92 seconds against the clock.
Young rider Jack Ryan, riding Cavalier Teaca (ISH), also made it through to the jump-off and posted a fast time of 32.96 but an unlucky four faults meant they had to settle for eighth place. The class was won by British rider Millie Allen and Balou Star (0/0 32.65).
