Breen’s good start
TIPPERARY’s Shane Breen made a winning start with the Team Z7 horses, owned by Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and previously ridden by Marion Hughes and Mikey Pender.
At the South of England show, Breen won last Thursday’s 1.35m with Z7 Cordanos V (Catoki x Lordance) and went on to win the Newcomers with the six-year-old Irish Sport Horse Z Seven Canya Dance, who won the bronze medal for five-year-olds in Lanaken last September. Breen also picked up a sixth place finish with Laith (Lord Z x Weinberg), and won a 1.30m with Cit Cat.
O’Shea runner-up
LIMERICK’s Paul O’Shea finished second in Sunday’s 1.60m Grand Prix at CSI4* Upperville in the USA. Riding Skara’s Glen’s Presence, O’Shea was double clear with a time of 46.42 against the clock, to pick up almost €40,000 in prize money.
Dreeling wins
CIARAN Dreeling won the six and seven-year-old CSIYH1* class in Asten, The Netherlands, aboard the seven-year-old stallion Luettinghofs Charlie Harper (Comme Il Faut x Salinator). The combination produced the fastest clear against the clock in 31.78 seconds.
Also at the two-star show, Mayo’s Michael G. Duffy finished sixth in Sunday’s 1.45m Grand Prix aboard Carl Hanley’s Chappo Chey (Carell 5 x Cornet Obolensky), picking up four faults in the jump-off.
McAuley win
LOUTH’s Mark McAuley picked up a win in the seven-year-old 1.40m class at Lons le Saunier in France with Foot Loose (Baltic VDL x Cavalier), producing the fastest double clear in 38.69 seconds, as well as slotting into third place with Al Capone Massuere (Nabbuco x Come On). The French-based rider finished seventh in Saturday’s 1.50m speed aboard Jacintha van het Kriekenhof (Winningmood x Skippy II) with a clear in 72.22 seconds.
