Lynch third in Madrid 1.55m

DENIS Lynch picked up €9,750 for his podium place finish in last Friday’s Trofeo Caixabank 1.55m class at the five-star Global Champions Tour show in Madrid.

Riding RMF Echo (Virus De Laubry x Feo), owned Frank McCourt’s Rushy Marsh Farm, Lynch was one of the 13 riders to make it through to the second round, where he produced another clear in 38.59 seconds to place third. Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann took the winner’s prize with Chacanno (38.27), while French rider Simon Delestre slotted into second with Hermes Ryan (38.36).

The combination went on to finish sixth in Saturday 1.60m Table A with a clear round in 73.69, picking up an additional €7,000.

Twomey wins

FOLLOWING a five-star win at Royal Windsor the previous week, Billy Twomey was winning on British soil once again last weekend when landing the Equestrian Surfaces two-star Grand Prix at Allington.

Riding long time sponsor Sue Davies’ home-bred Pewit Nono, who is out of Twomey’s former Nations Cup mount Anastasia II and by the great Luidam, who he also competing at the top level, Twomey guided the talented eight-year-old mare to win by almost three seconds in a time of 39.60 seconds in the 13 horse jump-off. The British-based rider collected £6,250 for the victory.

Ryan second in Lier

TIPPERARY’s Thomas Ryan had a successful weekend at the two-star show in Lier, Belgium, when placing second in both Saturday’s ranking class and Sunday’s 1.45m Grand Prix aboard Quite Zero (Quite Capitol x Landgraf I). Ryan and his own 13-year-old gelding were less than a second behind Belgian winner Hendrik Denutte with a clear round against the clock in 45.25 seconds.

The Swiss-based rider also picked up good placings in the seven-year-old classes with Larimosa (Larimar x Quite Capitol), finishing within the top 10 every day.

McCarthy placed

OLIVER McCarthy and the Irish Sport Horse HHS Louis (Quidam Junior x Ramiro B) placed sixth in last Sunday’s $25,000 Blue Rock Grand Prix in Pennsylvania, USA. The 11-year-old gelding is owned by Amanda Forte and was bred in Co Kilkenny by Thomas Hughes.

Top results for Ryan

LIMERICK’s Eoin Ryan recently recorded a number of top placings at the three-star show in Redefin, Germany. Riding Margit Lambrecht’s seven-year-old Castello 227 (Cassini I x Lasino), Ryan placed fourth in Friday’s CSIYH1* 1.35m with a clear round in 62.45 seconds. That combination went on to finish on the podium in Sunday’s 1.40m young horse final when producing a double clear round in 34.89 seconds to slot into third place.

In the three-star division, Ryan rode Nelson 235 (Nekton x Corrado I) to sixth place in Saturday’s €25,000 1.50m jump-off class with one of 10 clear rounds against the clock in 40.41. Ryan picked up €1,375 for the placing.

Foley lands US win

TOM Foley was victorious in the $20,000 National Grand Prix at the Fieldstone Spring Festival in Massachusetts, USA, aboard the Irish Sport Horse Honeylands Claddagh (Luidam x Lux Z). The nine-year-old gelding was produced in Ireland by Mayo show jumper Shane Goggins and later Clem McMahon before being sold to America last year.

Gordon third

MAYO’s Jonathan Gordon picked up a third place finish in last weekend’s three-star 1.45m Grand Prix in Hongcheon, Korea. Riding Sigwan Kim’s Caesa (Contendro I x Godenhard), Gordon faulted once in the second round in 43.39 seconds.

Korea’s Kim Kyunsub won the Grand Prix aboard Calibra Pmr Z (0/0 45.90).
