Spanish two-phase

KILKENNY’s Ivan Dalton was in winning form at the two-star Mediterranean Equestrian tour in Oliva, Spain, claiming a 1.45m two-phase class with Umano des Dragons last weekend.

Dalton was forced to share the spoils when Frenchman Guillaume Foutrier posted the exact same time of 34.57 seconds with Tchin de La Tour. Tipperary’s Thomas Ryan finished in fourth place aboard Quite Zero (0/0 36.25). In Sunday’s two-star 1.45m Grand Prix, Ryan jumped a double clear round for seventh place aboard Carige (0/0 39.40). The feature class was won by Foutrier and Tchin de La Tour (0/0 34.57).

UAE win for Pender

MIKEY Pender picked up yet another win in the United Arab Emirates aboard Team Z7’s Z7 Cordanos V. Pender and the 11-year-old gelding by Catoki (x Lordance) stormed to victory in the two-star medium tour.

Moloney second

KILKENNY’s Richie Moloney took another runner-up spot at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, this time in Wednesday’s $35,000 Douglas Elliman 1.45m aboard Equinimity LLC’s Alsvid. Moloney and the 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding jumped a clear round in 65.40 seconds.

Graham winning

KENNETH Graham picked up a win in the seven-year-old 1.35m class at the spring Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva, Spain, aboard Harold McGahern’s Beir Bua (ISH).

The Irish Sport Horse by Lacelot, out of a Cruising dam, jumped a double clear in a time of 26.66 seconds in the two-phase competition to collect €300.

The grey mare went on to place second in Wednesday’s seven-year-old class at the same venue, double clear in 37.50, just behind the Frenchman Harold Boisset. Beir Bua was bred in Co Longford by Harold McGahern.

Spanish win for Dermott Lennon

CO Down’s Dermott Lennon scored a win in the 1.50m Big Tour Table A at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer De La Frontera aboard the Irish Sport Horse Gelvin’s Touch. Lennon guided the 11-year-old gelding by Touchdown, out of Whitestown Diamond (by Diamond Lad), to a clear round in 62.96 to land the winner’s prize of €1750.

Columbia’s Dayro Arroyave was second with Dakar C (0/ 65.42), ahead of Spain’s Antonio Soto Marinas and Cash And Go in third (0/ 65.71). Longford’s Dereck McCoppin finished sixth with Zaire (0/ 69.97).

Lennon finished fifth in last Sunday’s 1.45m Grand Prix with Rebecca McGoldrick’s Fleur IV (Chatman x Darco). The 12-year-old mare jumped clear in a time of 40.85 against the clock. Chile’s Bernado Naveillan Goycoolea was the winner with Up To Date Dodville (0/0 37.58).

Coyle fourth

DERRY’s Daniel Coyle placed fourth with Sue and Ariel Grange’s Cita in Thursday’s $35,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup round six in Wellington, Florida.

British course designer Richard Jeffery set the course for 61 entries, qualifying 22 for the jump-off, with four opting not to return. Completing the course in the fastest time was Chile’s Samuel Parot and Atlantis (0/0 31.94). The Irish Sport Horse ISHD Dual Star (Quickstar x Concorde) was third with America’s Laura Chapot in the saddle (0/0 33.79), just ahead of Coyle in 33.92 seconds.

That placing sees the 22-year-old qualify for tonight’s Grand Prix in the international arena.
