TIPPERARY’s Greg Broderick got off to a good start in Vilamoura last week when he took the runner-up place in Wednesday’s two-star 1.45m class.

Riding Kerry Anne LLC’s Westbrook, Broderick delivered a double clear in a time of 33.34 seconds, less than a second off the winner, Brazil’s João Victor Castro and the stallion Bibenbreaker who were clear in 32.97.

The results continued for Ballypatrick Stables when Broderick’s student Rosalie Biedron (USA) and Charmeur claimed sixth place in Thursday’s Table A 1.35m when finishing with four faults in a time of 60.36.

Biedron had earlier led the victory lap in the 1.30m two-phase when she delivered a clear with LVS Wizard (ISH) in a time of 24.34. Broderick also featured in this line-up, taking seventh with Ballypatrick Flamenco (0/ 36.19).

Max O’Reilly Hyland was also in the ribbons when winning Thursday’s 1.20m Table A. Riding his own Enigma, he lodged the winning round in 29.13 seconds.

The following day, the pair had to settle for second in the 1.20m, when they delivered a clear in 31.29, behind Britain’s James Smith.

The final Ballypatrick result on the same day came in the 1.35m when American rider Veronica Tracy, also based at the Tipperary stable, won the class aboard her own Daify.

Kristoffer Marshall kicked off his week with a third place in the 1.35m seven-year-old class. Riding Kingdom Come, he delivered a clear in 64.91 seconds. The following day the pair improved one place to second.

Derry’s David Simpson was also in the ribbons when taking fifth in the 1.35m aboard First Verdi, clear in 65.39. Simpson added to his tally the next day when he partnered First Verdi into fourth in the 1.40m, clear in 64.76.

Harry Marshall was in the line-up in the six-year-olds when he delivered a foot-perfect round with Mistral V’T Dauwhof for third.

In another arena, Max O’Reilly Hyland, took another runner-up place with Enigma in the 1.20m, when less than a second off the winner.
