TIPPERARY’s Darragh Ryan was among the four-star winners during the penultimate week of the Spanish sunshine tour in Vejer de la Frontera.

Riding Nicola Pohl’s Sir Landal Joter, a 12-year-old gelding by Singulord Joter, Ryan galloped to victory in Saturday’s 1.45m Table A in a time of 65.46 seconds, just under two seconds faster than runner-up Greg Broderick with Rosalie Biedron’s Irish Sport Horse LVS Wizard (Cobra x Diamond Lad) in 67.68 seconds. Broderick also slotted into fourth place with Charmeur (0/71.52).

Broderick’s other results included a runner-up finish in Sunday’s 1.45m Table A aboard GBBS International Ltd’s Irish Sport Horse Hybernia (Flexible x Clover Hill). The combination had earlier taken second in Friday’s 1.40m two-phase.

Sixteen-year-old Max Wachman was also a winner at the venue, guiding Coolmore Showjumping’s Cesha OLD to win Saturday’s 1.20m two-phase class, and also flying the Tipperary flag was British-based Trevor Breen who won the 1.30m on Saturday with Billy Drizzle.

Anthony Condon slotted into fifth place with Chic du Rouet, while Cian O’Connor finished eighth aboard Dobby. Breen also won Friday’s 1.30m Accumulator aboard the 13-year-old gelding.

Sligo’s Richard Howley has enjoyed plenty of top results during the tour and last week finished second in Saturday’s 1.45m jump-off class. Riding Sarah Borthwick’s nine-year-old mare Farianne, Howley was among 11 double clear rounds in the huge 22 horse jump-off.

Their time of 42.67 seconds was just slower than Brazilian winner Pedro Veniss and Anaya Ste Hermelle. He earned €5,000.

Dermott Lennon was just behind Howley in third place with MJM Pursuit (0/0 42.87), after taking victory last week, while another Grand Prix winner on this tour, Peter Moloney slotted into sixth place with Ghana (0/0 45.29).

Anthony Condon was best of the Irish in Sunday’s four-star 1.55m Grand Prix when finishing in fifth place with SFS Aristio. Condon and Cian O’Connor were among the eight combinations to make it through to the jump-off in the feature class.

O’Connor, riding his championship hopeful Irenice Horta, picked up eight faults against the clock to finish in eighth place. Condon was the slowest of five double clear rounds with Lisa and Pat Hales’ 13-year-old Arko III-sired stallion to collect €6,531. Victory went to Britain’s Holly Smith with Hearts Destiny.
