MAYO’s Michael G Duffy scored a double of wins at the two-star show in Lichtenvoorde, The Netherlands, last weekend.

The Ballina native, who was part of the gold medal-winning young rider team at the European championships in 2016, is based with Carl Hanley Sporthorses in Osnabrück, Germany, taking over as the head rider in October 2016.

Duffy initiated his double with a win in Friday’s 1.40m two-phase aboard Hanley’s Castlefield Rubinus (Rock Forever NRW x Renoir I), with a double clear in 29.64 seconds, beating Vanessa Borgmann and Lucky Luck into second place (0/0 30.74).

That nine-year-old gelding was produced from his six-year-old year by Co Clare’s Eoin McMahon, who previously rode at the German stable.

The second win came on Saturday in the 1.35m. This time, Duffy rode Hanley’s Scenletha (Hunter’s Scendix x Contendro I) to a double clear in 25.75 seconds.

Another Irish win came on Friday, courtesy of Co Antrim’s Conor Drain when he raced to victory in the 1.35m Table A aboard Forever in a time of 57.70. Drain is based in The Netherlands.
