UNBELIEVABLY, Derry’s Daniel Coyle picked up another batch of top-drawer wins at the five-star show in Spruce Meadows, Canada.

On Saturday, he guided Sue and Ariel Grange’s Cita (Casall ASK x Pik Ramiro) to a win the 1.55m class and picked up almost €50,000 when clear in 37.79 seconds.

On the same day, he rode Tienna, by For Pleasure, to victory in the 1.50m jump-off class, with a clear round in 36.44 seconds, collecting about €15,000, bringing his tally to almost €65,000 in one day.

Mayo’s Cameron Hanley finished third in the 1.45m Altagas Cup. Riding Patrick Mielnik’s Quirex (Quirado x Concept), Hanley was one of 13 double clears to slot into third place in a time of 42.84. The class was won by Canada’s Tiffany Foster with Brighton (0/0 41.40).

The biggest class of the week, the 1.60m CP Grand Prix, was won by the Irish-bred Suma’s Zorro (Ard VDL Douglas x Horos) and Egypt’s Sameh El Dahan. Bred in Co Kilkenny by Susan Lanigan-O’Keeffe, the 13-year-old mare, who is owned by El Dahan and Joanne Sloan-Allen, jumped the only double clear, in 44.34 seconds.

With only two first round clears, Tipperary’s Kevin Babington finished in sixth place with the Irish Sport Horse Mark Q (OBOS Quality 004 x Positively) after picking up five faults in the first round.
