JONATHAN Corrigan and the Irish Sport Horse gelding Super Chilled finished on the podium in the $72,900 CSI2* Staller Grand Prix Grand Prix at Traverse City in Michigan, USA, while Capt. Brian Cournane finished in sixth place.

Some 47 combinations, hailing from eight nations, battled it out for the top spot over Guilherme Jorge’s track, with 12 combinations qualifying for the jump-off. Stopping the clock as the quickest double-clear duo and the last to go, USA’s Abigail McArdle and Victorio 5 claimed victory.

Corrigan was one of six double clear rounds aboard the Cheryl Broderick-bred 12-year-old by Gelvin Clover, out of Ballypatrick Codex, who is owned by Debra Wycoff.

After a runner-up finish in the Grand Prix the previous week, Cournane continued his good form and slotted into sixth place with the slowest of six clear rounds against the clock aboard Mr and Mrs Robert Stiller’s Armik.

Corrigan’s placing meant he has extended his lead in the race for the CaptiveOne Advisors $30,000 Leading Jumper Rider Bonus, which will be awarded following 11 weeks of competition in Traverse City. He has led since the very first week of competition.

There were four Irish in the top seven of Friday’s 1.45m jump-off class. Best of those was Donegal rider Gavin Harley who slotted into fourth place with the eight-year-old gelding Corbawido PS, owned by Wolfstone Stables and Sales Inc. Galway’s Stephen Moore was one place behind in fifth with Team de Coquerie, owned by Vlock Show Stables.

Corrigan and Super Chilled finished sixth, ahead of Cournane and Sunny van de Hunters in seventh place. Cournane was making his FEI debut with the nine-year-old mare who is owned by his Glenbeigh Farm LLC and Julian Cournane.
