Duffy runner-up in St Tropez

MAYO’s Michael G. Duffy finished runner-up in Friday’s five-star 1.45m class at the Global Champions Tour in St Tropez, France. The Germany-based rider guided Carl Hanley Sporthorses’ nine-year-old mare My Way B&V to a clear round in 63.15 seconds, just behind Japanese winner Mike Kawai with Star (0/ 61.26). His namesake, Michael Duffy from Galway, was also in action at the venue and he finished fourth in the class with RMF Charly (0/ 65.66).

Sweden’s Peder Fredricson won Saturday’s five-star Grand Prix and took over the lead in the Global Champions Tour when racing victory with Catch Me Not S to win €99,000. He beat his teammate Henrik von Eckermann into second place, while Frenchman Simon Delestre finished third.

Corrigan second and third

JONATHAN Corrigan finished second and third in the two-star Grand Prix in Saugerties, New York, USA, last Saturday. He was one of only two double clear to finish second in the class with the 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Super Chilled, by Gelvin Clover, who was bred in Co Tipperary by Cheryl Broderick.

With the fastest time of the jump-off but with four faults, he slotted into third place with the 11-year-old gelding Fair Play, to earn a combined prize fun of €15,750. Victory went to USA’s Heather Caristo Williams with Marie vd Mespel Z. Ireland’s Christian Coyle finished seventh with Dekato after picking up four faults in the first round.
