WATERFORD’s Anthony Condon got his campaign at Nations Cup level back on track last weekend when his top mount SFS Aristio jumped a clear round to help Ireland win the in Lisbon, and 48 hours later the stallion went on to prove he is back to his best when finishing second in the three-star Grand Prix.

INJURY

The 12-year-old Arko III-sired stallion jumped three double clears in 2016 before missing the majority of last season due to an injury.

They returned to international competition earlier this season and finished fourth in the three-star Grand Prix in Bethune, France, last month.

Some 15 of the 57 starters over the 1.60m track were brought back to the second round, including 11 clear rounds.

Only four could manage another clear around the jump-off track and Condon’s time of 40.76 seconds was just beaten in the runner-up position by Portugal’s Luis Sabino Goncalves and Unesco du Route (0/0 40.30).

Condon collected €8,000 for his placings, while the Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Curra Quinn (Harlequin du Carel x Clover Hill), owned by Carol Gee and ridden by Portugal’s Duarte Seabra slotted into third place.
