TIPPERARY’s Greg Broderick won the two-star Grand Prix at Vilamoura last Thursday to finish the six-week Portuguese tour in style.

Riding Westbrook, a 10-year-old Jaguar Mail gelding owned by Kerry Anne LLC, a new client to his Ballypatrick Stables, Broderick collected €12,500 after he was the fastest of five double clear rounds against the clock, in a time of 37.18 seconds.

Britain’s Louise Simpson took the runner-up spot in a time of 37.89 with Felix X, ahead of France’s Eugenie Angot and Turquoise d’Ivraie (0/0 37.92).

Ireland’s Max O’Reilly Hyland, who trains with the winner, also made it through to the jump-off with his top mount, Ahmed du Calvaire, but eight faults against the clock saw them slip to eighth place.

O’Reilly Hyland was the runner-up three times aboard Enigma in 1.20m classes at the Portuguese venue.
