FOR the third week in a row, Shane Breen topped the podium with the fantastic Can Ya Makan in the United Arab Emirates, on a day where Derry’s David Simpson finished in second place at the five-star Dubai Show Jumping Championships at the Emirates Equestrian Club.

With the 12-year-old Canturo-sired stallion, who is owned by Team Z7, Breen topped the Accumulator class of 34 competitors when recording the maximum 65 points in the fastest time of 49.22 seconds to collect just over €7,000.

Simpson also picked up 65 points in a slightly slower time of 50.96 with the 11-year-old stallion Unex Cognac IV (Unaniem x Kennedy) to fill the runner-up position and pick up €5,700. Ramzy Al Duhami from Saudi Arabia took third place with High Quality J and in a time of 52.73.

Breen collected €18,000 when he rode to second place in Thursday’s Grand Prix qualifier aboard Laith (Lord Z x Weinberg). Breen was one of 15 clears in the 1.45m class and his time of 61.18 seconds was just beaten by Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann with Chacanno (0/59.60).

Germany’s Miriam Schneider won Saturday’s FEI World Cup qualifier Grand Prix, sponsored by Emirates, aboard Cartagena with one of just four double clear rounds.

MOORSELE

Meanwhile, at the two-star show in Moorsele, Belgium, Shane’s younger brother Trevor Breen finished the Grand Prix with two horses in the top seven. Breen guided the talented nine-year-old Clyde VA to finish in fourth place after a clear against the clock in 41.78 seconds. The Caretino-sired stallion is owned by Shane’s Breen Equestrian and Pelikano Gida Vedis Ticaret Ltd and has been produced up to this level by Shane.

Trevor also finished in seventh place with the 10-year-old Bombay (Lord Z x Bon Ami). A good winner for Breen last season, the grey mare just faulted once in a time of 37.19 seconds in the 17-horse jump-off. Victory went to Belgium’s Vincent Lambrecht and Just Energie (0/0 35.98).
