TIPPERARY’S Shane Breen drove away in a brand new Mercedes Benz after he scored a hard-fought win in Friday night’s four-star 1.50m Rabobank Prize at Geesteren in The Netherlands.

Riding Laith (Lord Z x Weinberg), a relatively new mount to his top string, owned by Team Z7 and previously campaigned by Marion Hughes, Breen was the fastest of a massive 15-horse jump-off in a time of 31.23 seconds.

Italy’s Alberto Zorzi came closest to catching the Irish winner when last to go with Living The Dream, the former mount of Cameron Hanley, but had to settle for second in a time of 31.54. Dutchman Gerco Schröder took third spot with Glock´s Lausejunge.

The Hickstead-based rider then followed up that victory with a runner-up finish in Saturday night’s the 1.50m Roelofs Groep Prize at the four-star Dutch fixture.

Breen and the 10-year-old stallion finished a 10th of a second behind Dutch winner Gert Jan Bruggink with Charmeur. Britain’s William Funnell finished third with Billy Angelo.

Conor Drain picked up a third place finish in Saturday’s 1.40m with Dakota V Schuttershof (Darco x Nabab de Reve), clear in 60.92.
