TIPPERARY’s Shane Breen scored a five-star runner-up finish with the Irish Sport Horse CSF Vendi Cruz in Teffen, Austria, last weekend.

With Brian Cassidy’s 10-year-old Ars Vivendi-sired mare, who was bred by Patrick Connolly in Co Galway, Breen posted the second fastest clear round, in a time of 70.76. That was good enough for second place behind Belgium’s Constant Van Paesschen with Compadre Van De Helle (0/ 66.86).

Galway’s Stephen Moore finished second in a two-star 1.40m Accumulator class. Riding Vlock Show Stables’ Deejay (Harley VDL x Amulet), Moore was one of 13 riders to pick up the maximum score of 65 points in the class and his time of 47.96 was just behind America’s Teddy Vlock, who the Galway man trains, with Charly Brown in 47.73 seconds.

The result earned Moore €2,500.

He was unlucky to pick up four faults in Sunday’s two-star Grand Prix to finish just outside the placings, in 12th.

GOOD LUCK

Cian O’Connor’s European gold and bronze medal-winning mount Good Luck made his first appearance since 2017 at the Austrian venue and he looked in fantastic form when jumping just one class – a 1.45m – for three time faults. O’Connor is aiming to have the horse peak for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon this September.

O’Connor was one of 10 clears in the first round of Sunday’s five-star €345,000 1.60m Grand Prix aboard Clenur. Two poles on the ground in the second round saw them finish in 10th place and collect just over €8,000.

The winning cheque of €86,250 went to America’s Beezie Madden with Coach, ahead of teammate Lauren Hough and Waterford.
