GALWAY’s Andrew Bourns guided the Irish Sport Horse gelding CHS Inception to a fourth place finish in the three-star $130,000 Hollow Creek Farm Grand Prix at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, USA.

The American-based rider was one of seven from the field of 51 riders who made it through to the timed round. Mounted on his mother Deirdre Bourns’ nine-year-old gelding, he returned in the second round to produce a second clear round, breaking the beam in 44.27 seconds to slot into fourth place.

CHS Inception is by Clover Flush, out of Bohemia, who is sired by Harlequin du Carel, and was bred in Co Cavan by Ard Ri Properties Ltd.

California-based Frenchman Eric Navet landed the win aboard Catypso with the fastest jump-off round in 40.65. Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade slotted into second with Bon Jovi (0/0 40.76), ahead of America’s Sharn Wordley and Casper (0/0 41.93).

Meanwhile, at the five-star Nations Cup show in La Baule, France, Bourns Sport Horses’ Irish-based rider Jenny Rankin secured two top-four finishes in the Under 25 division. Partnered with Deirdre Bourns’ Tullibards Bennys Legacy (Lupicor x Voltaire), Rankin placed third in last Thursday’s CSIU25 1.40m class, with a clear round in 68.47 seconds.

In Saturday’s 1.45m Under 25 Grand Prix, the combination were one of just five clears in the opening round, and four faults against the clock saw them finish in fourth place.

Rankin took over the ride on the nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding at the end of the 2016 and enjoyed a successful trip to the Sunshine Tour in Oliva earlier this season.
