BORRIS Vocational School from Co Carlow had fantastic results at the Hurst College National School Show Jumping Championships held in Hickstead last weekend. The senior team of Catherine Kavanagh (Coppenagh Blitz), Patrick Doyle (Boley Boy), Claire Kavanagh (Clonagoose Daniel Dubh) and Aoife Murphy (Garrynadruig Turbo) took victory in the international arena.

The course was technical and challenging and just nine of the 40 competitors jumped clear. With three scores to count, the Borris team put in a superb performance to finish on a zero score to seal victory. Former winners, Wellington College and Millfield School, finished joint-second with eight faults.

In the individual final jump-off, Aoife Murphy was last to go and produced the fastest of the clear rounds to land victory ahead of George Laing from Hurst College. Claire Kavanagh and Patrick Doyle also jumped off and seventh and eighth, respectively, for Borris VS.

The Borris VS Junior team of Áine Kavanagh (She’s a Diva), Mosie Murphy (Trickie Stephen D), Tess Staunton (Full of Promise) and Caoilfhionn Lawlor (Coolroe Apollo) did well to finish eighth in the international arena. In the individual junior competition, Mosie Murphy finished third and Tess Staunton eighth after clear rounds. The win crowned a fantastic year for Borris who also won the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League in April.
