MAYO’s Jack Dodd was seventh on Quarto Mail (0/4 51.69 seconds) in the 1.55m Selva Di al Gardena Grand Prix at the three-star Italian show. The winner was Finland’s Julia-Anna Kontio on Pacific Des Essarts (0/0 47.87).

The Galway rider, stable rider to Bertram Allen, was fourth with Wrangler II (0/67.55) in a 1.50m speed class behind Italian winner Paolo Paini on Clodia CSG (0/64.61). Mark McAuley and Censation Du Ry Z were ninth in a 1.45m speed class at the venue (0/4 28.92), won by Italy’s Filippo Moyersoen and Loro Piana Biricchina Bella (0/0 27.69).

Irish feature

CLARE’s David Blake enjoyed a top 10 finish in the $130,000 Adequan Grand Prix CSI*** at Tryon International EC, placing seventh with the 10-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding Binkie (Larino x Hors La Loi II), owned by Pine Hollow Farm. The duo had a single time fault in a time of 88.340 seconds.

The Grand Prix win went to New Zealand’s Sharn Wordley on Sky Group’s Casper, a 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Contender x Baloubet du Rouet), chased by Australia’s Matthew Williams on Valinski S, a 14-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding (Nijinski x Julius) and America’s Peter Wylde in third on the 11-year-old Dutch warmblood mare Aimee (Solitair x Silvio II).

Earlier Blake placed Binkie fourth in the 1.50m Welcome Stakes (0/0 38.17), won by Colombia’s Mark Bluman and Thriller P (0/0 36.59).

Galway’s David O’Brien was second in the $35,000 1.45m Horseware Ireland class at Tryon CSI*** on O’Splendido (0/70.40).

The class was won by Wordley on Famoso D Ive Z (0/69.14).

Reynolds in top five

RIO-bound Kildare dressage rider Judy Reynolds enjoyed a series of top placings at the four-star show in Fritzens-Schindlhof, Austria.

Reynolds and Vancouver K were third in the Grand Prix on a score of 71.5%, behind German winner Isabell Werth on Emilio 107 on a score of 78.9%. The Irish rider was also fourth in the Grand Prix Special with her Jazz gelding (72.039%), again won by Werth and Emilio 107 (80.196%).

In the intermeidate 1 contest, Reynold and Zigal 69 were fifth on a score of 69.158% behind German winner Dorothee Schneider and Kiss Me 24 (76.421%).

Irish placed

MAYO’s Cameron Hanley was fifth on new mount Falco Van Spieveld (0/0 42.12 seconds) in the 1.55m Arnhem CSI***, The Netherlands, behind Dutch winner Michel Hendrix on Baileys (0/0 38.88). Meanwhile Offaly’s Darragh Kenny and Zahra II were third in the 1.45m jump-off (0/0 39.46), the win going to Dutch rider Jelmer Hoekstra on Quinoa Des Riollets (0/0 36.92).

Howley wins GP

SLIGO’s Richard Howley and Chinook won the Wettenhall CSI** Grand Prix in Britain, with David Simpson in fifth on Unex Cognac IV and Dave Quigley sixth on EIS Laura.

Paul Kennedy was seventh on his own mare Cartown Danger Mouse.
