THE Linda Moore autumn show jumping league continued in the West Leinster region of riding clubs on Sunday last, hosted by Greenhills riding club at Coilog EC in Co Kildare.

The competition included a clear round class, five graded jumping classes and a sportsmans class. The Kildare-based club were delighted to have secured sponsorship for the event from Investec, sponsors of the Irish Nations Cup team, while Toberton Lodge riding school provided prizes to the best turned out horse and rider in each competition.

A total of 107 combinations lined-out on a very busy day of show jumping. The primary class saw victory going to Penny Miles from Castledermot riding club, with Diana Haining from Moyglare finishing as runner-up. Maiah Sammon from Calliaghstown claimed the advanced primary class, just ahead of Deirdre Fitzgerald from Abbeylands in second. The sportsmans class, open to riders graded intermediate and above, was won by Barbara Delaney from Winterdown, with Fiona Leahy from Kilrainy riding club in second.

The intermediate class attracted 30 entries, with 12 of those going clear in the opening round. The jump-off was a close-call with eight double clear rounds, with Marie Dunne from Moyglare posting the winning time of 39.04 seconds, adding to a previous win this season at Dunbyrne riding club.

Abbeylands member Anne O’Connor finished as runner-up, a second behind the winner.

The advanced intermediate class saw three of the 11 entries progress to the jump-off, where Kate Deegan scored a win for Winterdown ahead of Laurie Cordonatto from Killcarrick in second. The final open class saw Pauline Costello and grey gelding Camalau Z produce the only double clear round for Abbeylands, with Liam Gaffney from Winterdown in second.

Prizes for best turned out were presented to Hilda Browne, Hollie Devitt, Mark Howe, Samantha Fitzsimons, Olwyn Alexander and Deirdre O’Loughlin. The next leg of the league will be held tomorrow, Sunday, hosted by Winterdown riding club at Kildare International EC.
