ANTRIM’S Conor Drain scored a runner-up finish in the two-star Grand Prix at Wierden in The Netherlands last Sunday, crowning an excellent show for the Irish rider who landed three podium placings.
Drain, who has been based in the Twente region of Holland since 2013, had held the lead in the 13-horse jump-off after a brilliant effort with Zidane.
The 11-year-old son of Germus R stopped the clock clear in 32.83 seconds and held top spot until the last rider entered the arena.
However a brilliant performance from Dutch junior and young rider champion, Sanne Thijssen, who only celebrated her 17th birthday last Monday, saw her take the winners prize with the Baloubet Du Rouet mare Ulena, finishing just over a 10th of a second faster than the Irish rider.
Drain had earlier finished third in a 1.45m jump-off class last Friday in Wierden with Zidane, while Mayo’s Jack Dodd slotted into eighth place with Wrangler II.
Talented Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen again took the winners prize with Ulena.
Drain scored a victory in last Friday morning’s 1.20m class with Audi’s Amaja.
The 10-year-old daughter of Guidam crossed the line two seconds faster than the nearest challenger.
