WATERFORD’s Paul Beecher and Kerry’s Maura Counihan dominated the second round of the Connolly’s Red Mills Munster Grand Prix league at Kingdom County show in Tralee last Sunday.
The pair filled all of the top five places, with Tallow-born Beecher taking the winner’s prize with Danqu from 20 starters. The eight-year-old gelding by Ustoniv, owned by Seryna Van Kuelen, posted the winning time of 31.38 seconds in a seven-horse jump-off. Jumping on home soil, Maura Counihan finished as runner-up with Coral Du Carel, just over a second behind.
Beecher not only filled third place with Loughnatousa Eric, who was one of three double clear rounds, the Waterford rider also took fourth place with Loughnatousa Zidane.
Maura Counihan grabbed another share of the prize fund when finishing fifth with Dicksgrove Silver, while Patrick McNamara slotted into sixth aboard Master Holiday.
The third round of the Connolly’s Red Mills Munster Grand Prix league will take place at Aglish Gymkhana in Co Waterford tomorrow (Sunday) with Paul Beecher on top of the league table with 16 points, ahead of Francis Connors in second.
