Everyone in attendance at Wexford Equestrian was pleased with the indoor facilities used last Sunday.

In the open team competition, it appeared as though the jump-off to decide the winners would be for teams with four faults as no zero scores had been recorded with just two teams to jump. However, the final two teams – Good Counsel, New Ross’ first team and Newbridge College White – produced zero scores to go head-to-head in a jump-off.

The Good Counsel pair of Jack Kehoe on Cloughcaum Lady and Jim Redmond on Little Romeo were selected to go against the clock. The former was clear in 35.76 seconds, while Redmond had one fence down in 31.92 for a final score of four faults in 67.68.

Newbridge rider Sarah Beahan was first to jump and returned with a good clear in 36.69 on Mullabaloo, while team-mate Amy Carroll (Killington Lady) had a fence down in 51.55 for a team total of 88.24 with four faults.

That gave victory to the Good Counsel side, which included Jack Dalton with Camblin Milton and Noel Dunne on Ballytartin Patch. The Newbridge team, which won the best turned-out award, was completed by Caoimhe Sweeney on Kippure Sleepview Jack and Luke Heffernan on Mr Rockstown Two.

Six teams then jump-off to decide the minor placings and in the end third place went to the Presentation Wexford riders who were clear in 79.51. Good Counsel’s second team claimed fourth with four faults in 66.10, while fifth place went to Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross with four faults in 68.60. The final placing was filled by Gorey Community School with four faults in 74.08.

Many of the winning team members featured in the startlist for the open individual. With the track changed, the competitors had to navigate a challenging, but fair course designed by Damien Beevor. Completing a clean sweep for the school in the open, the winner was Good Counsel’s Oisin Aylward on Coppenagh Tom Sparrow, who was clear in 31.18.

In second was Newbridge Black member Karen Casey on Primadonna Girl with a clear in 31.54, while third went to Our Lady of Lourdes, New Ross rider Abby Boland on Blu in 32.25. Loreto Wexford’s Davina Murphy was fourth on Classie Lass.

With no novice teams in action, the novice individuals competition was held indoors after the open event. After competitive jumping, Lucy Bolger on Good Morning Major emerged as the winner with the only double clear in 39.65. Second went to Doireann Doyle on Kilmacow Blue with four faults, while Rebecca Rochowich was third on Buster with eight faults.
