International event rider Ciaran Glynn was course builder for the day.

A group of four competitors in the their mid-teens returned to the Fox family’s Moy Riding School in Summerhill, Co Meath with a large hamper filled with liquid and sweet delights following their victory in the main class of the day, the 90cms section, where three teams jumped-off for honours.

Two riders in each squad went against the clock in the final round where Moy recorded double clears thanks to the efforts of Jack Kavanagh on Moy Swift (40.19 seconds) and Bethany Youngson with Ellie’s Pride (35.75). Cheering this pair were team-mates Lauren Martin (Andy’s Dream) and Tara Scanlon (Buster) and chef d’equipe Michael Fox.

A team from the nearby Thornton Park Equestrian Centre finished second. Helen Ginley, riding Irene Keogh’s Katie, jumped her third clear round of the class in 34.40, but Laura Tierney had a fence down in 42.21 with Pablo. Their team was completed by Ava Wyse (Ginger) and Conor Melia (Ebony).

Sportsman event rider Clare O’Dwyer (Arthur) and her husband Ronan (Ben) stood down for the final round with their Lagore livery and training yard being represented by daughter Hope and fellow Ward Union Pony Club member Peter Sherry. The latter was clear in 46.36 with Solly, but Hope had a fence down in 38.74 with Khan as Lagore finished third.

Four teams went through to the jump-off round in the 80cms division, but only the Howth Peninsula Pirates managed to complete on a zero score. Their riders in the timed round were Mike Butler (Casey) and Ann Marie Murphy (Django), who were clear in 31.74 and 36.66 respectively, while also on the team were Danielle Phillips (George) and Sean O’Bryan (Milo).

From further north up the coast in Rush came the second-placed squad of the Odds Socks. As Laura Carrick (My Foxy Lady) and Joanne Hannigan (Bracken Dancer) took a rest, Maria Carrick was clear in 33.74 with Flashdance, but Geraldine Farrell had a pole down with the veteran Lisnabrogue in 32.93.

On a good day for Howth residents, the Heavenly team of Barbara Mackey (Kali), Georgia Lillis (Coppindale Cavalier), Ann Marie Murphy (Allegro) and Genevieve Murphy (Lady Zara) claimed the 70cms class with the only clear. The Kilronan trio of Lucy Quinn (Buddy), Ailish Connolly (Mike) and Ciara Moore (Smurf) saw off their sole challengers Killossery to land the 60cms section.
