CORK’s Abbie Sweetnam scored a double of victories at the Belgian international show in Wierden last weekend, including a brilliant win in the feature 1.30m Grand Prix with the Irish-bred Dynamite Spartacus. Sweetnam’s double clear round in 38.01 seconds couldn’t be beaten, while Oisin Aylward was next best of the Irish in sixth place with Coppenagh Tom Sparrow.

Sweetnam and Dynamite Spartacus also landed the 1.30m speed class last Saturday, with fellow Irish rider Harry Allen finishing as runner-up aboard Acapella Z.

Harry Allen, Oisin Aylward and Abbie Sweetnam formed the Irish team for the Nations Cup at the Belgian venue last Saturday and finished in joint-fourth place on a 20-fault total, without the benefit of a discard score.

Allen picked up eight faults with Aughnashammer, the same score as Aylward riding Coppenagh Oliver Twist, while Sweetnam lowered a single rail with Spartacus Reape.

Charlotte Houston also recorded a win for Ireland in the small tour 1.20m class in Wierden with Ewald.
