SHANE Dalton continued his run of good form at the Meadows EC Summer Championships when he triumphed in the Six-Year-Old Horse Sport Ireland ISH Studbook Showjumping Series.

The final rider in a 16-horse decider, Dalton came home with over a second in hand to clinch the victory in the €2,700 grand finale with Kashino.

Spectators were treated to an exciting jump-off where Dalton found the shortest route home when logging a clear round in 30.09 seconds.

Owned and bred by Jackie Lee, the Cassino-sired mare is out of the dam Captain Pride, by Captain Clover.

Kashino has shown some good form over this season qualifying for Dublin and as a Boomerang finalist in Millstreet but really came into her own this weekend, also winning Saturday’s qualifying round.

“I’ve had plenty of success with Kashino and I definitely think she is one to watch out for in the future. I’m really grateful to have her and I want to thank Jackie (Lee) for giving me the opportunity to ride her,” said Dalton.

After his successful weekend, Dalton has no plans to slow down, adding: “The plan now is to go to the Irish Breeders Classic with several horses and we are also heading to Lanaken, as well as the Cavan Indoor Championships.”

Eddie Moloney took second place on the day with Cruicerath Flexianna. Moloney looked to have done enough to secure the win having set the time to beat in the late stages of the clocked round at 31.66 before being relegated at the last moment. By Flexible, Cruicerath Flexianna is out of the dam Pannamarenca, by Holland.

Moloney had knocked Clem McMahon and the Pacino-sired Franko off the top spot, the pair recording a time of 32.42. Kelly Taggart had established the original time to beat at 33.53 with LCC Katenko which stood for eventual fourth place in the line-up, also taking sixth position with LCC Empty Pockets.

Jonathan Smyth slotted into fifth place with the Luidam-sired Mulvin Lui.

Ger O’Neill claimed the league title with Killossery Kaiden well in front with a total of 21 points. Bred by Laura and Frank Glynn, the Lux Z gelding is out of the well-known Cruising dam Killossery Kruisette, herself a capable performer for the Army Equitation School.

O’Neill, commenting on his selection for Lanaken, said: “He’s a very careful consistent horse. He would be a nice one to have in the final in Lanaken and I think he has a good chance of making it there.”
