CILL Dara RC held the latest leg of the west Leinster Linda Moore Showjumping League last Sunday - the first riding club showjumping competition to be held at Redhills Stud in Co Kildare. The venue, owned by Jenny and Karl Heffernan, includes two spacious outdoor arenas and sets of ideal new show jumping fences. Seventeen horse and rider combinations took advantage of the clear round competition which was held prior to the graded classes on the day.

The primary class was sponsored by Kildare House Hotel and was judged on optimum time. This class had six entries and was won by regional secretary and Killcarrick RC member Anouska Rickard and her coloured mare Stunning Sascha. Second place went to Penny Miles and Jake from Castledermot RC.

The Frontier Saddlery advanced primary class proved popular with 19 entries competing, judged on optimum time. Padraig Fennessy won the class with Azara from Rathfarnham RC. Mary O’Driscoll from Abbeylands RC took second place with Ellistown Megan. The largest class of the day was the intermediate class which was sponsored by Top Spec and had 24 entries. Eight horse and rider combinations rode a clear round and progressed to jump-off against the clock to decide results. Peter Dargan from Kilrainy RC was the fastest clear against the clock in 29.93 seconds and won the class with Temple Cruise. A clear round in 31.97 seconds earned second place for Lisa O’Reilly and Diamond Rahley from Abbeylands.

The advanced intermediate class was sponsored by Dunmurry Springs Golf Club. The class had 12 entries but only two of these horse and rider combinations rode a clear round and progressed to the jump-off. Julie Coyne and Reilly from Killcarrick RC provided the only clear in the jump-off and won the class. Zena Ryle and Moneyball from Maynooth RC had a faster time against the clock but four faults pushed them into second place.

The open class had four entries and the course proved a challenge as the class resulted in no clear rounds. The winner of the class was Dolores Ruth and her black gelding Run DMC Z.

The pair from Dunbyrne RC had eight faults in the second half of the course. Second place, also on eight faults with four incurred early on in the course, went to Kate Solon and Sharragh Watermill from Greenhills RC. The 85cms and 95cms classes proved popular on the day with 15 entries between them.
