KILKENNY young rider Phillip Carey claimed the second round of the Mervue Equine Leinster Summer Tour at Barnadown in Co Wexford on Saturday from 53 entries.

Carey piloted the 16-year-old gelding CTS Peanuts to victory, posting the fastest double clear round of 32.13 seconds. It was a Kilkenny one-two as Ger O’Neill finished as runner-up aboard The Hurricane, just over two tenths of a second slower than Carey. Waterford’s Francis Connors slotted into third with Capital Cruis while John Floody grabbed fourth spot with Ballyknock Diamond.

There was a tie for fifth place when Stephen Murphy riding Carrenroe Limited Edition and Thom Keane aboard Delano W, both stopped the clock in 33.94 seconds flat.

Connors also accounted for seventh place with Lates Du Carel, double clear in 34.63 while Mervyn Clarke and Aramis 573 were also double clear, in 34.90 to take eighth place.
