The prize money was sponsored by John Nash and the MCR Group.

There were 26 starters and course designer Paul Duffy said he was very pleased when six of them came through to the jump-off, which demanded many leg changes and much accuracy from both horse and rider.

Olive Clarke, with three horses through, was pathfinder with Louis d’Or who knocked two fences in 42.75 seconds. Cormac Hanley followed on Queen Carola and gave a flowing performance to stop the clock at 40.60, with a clear round, to take the lead. Clarke returned, this time with Kofi Annan, and they too had a very pleasing faultless round but in the slower time of 43.01 while Stephen Egan followed with Whitestream Spirit but, in a time of 44.61, had one regrettable fence down.

Clarke returned again on board Snipe and they returned clear in 41.65 to move into second place. Jessica Burke, top of the leaderboard with Vitesse on 44 points, was last to jump. The speedy pair took on the challenge with relish and with not a hint of a fault they stopped the clock at 40.38 to win the class.

The Leaderboard points now have the Burke and Vitesse combination well ahead on 54, with just two shows left in the series. Today the competition moves to Ballinasloe where the Aughrim Show holds its jumping competitions.
