BRITAIN’s Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos beat off a world class field to make history and win the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen before a packed stadium of 45,000 poeple on Sunday evening.

Brash, who is also a Connolly’s Red Mills brand ambassador, has now won two legs of the equestrian triple crown and on top of his €330,000 Aachen winnings, has earned himself a bonus of €500,000 if he jumps at Spruce Meadows Masters in September (9th-13th). Should he win at Spruce, Brash’s trio of wins will land him the ultimate Grand Slam bonus worth €1 million.

Germany’s Daniel Deusser riding Cornet d’Amour finished second at Aachen with France’s Simon Delestre on Ryan Des Hayettes in third over Frank Rothenberger’s track, where 40 riders started over the 13-obstacle course.

Ten riders were clear going into round two, Brash and Hello Sanctos (Quasimodo v. Molendreef x Nabab De Reve) were among seven qualified for the jump-off.

The first three riders all had a pole down and then Germany’s Daniel Deusser racked up a clear round in what looked like an incredible time of 48.37 seconds. Aachen favourite Ludger Beerbaum followed and produced a clear round but could not match the time set by Deusser. France’s Simon Delestre was next to go clear, but was also not quick enough.

Last into the arena was World No.1 Scott Brash, his round started off slow, but Hello Sanctos made up time over the second half of the course, crossing the line in a nail-biting 48.04 seconds to win the Rolex Grand Prix to a standing ovation from the crowd.

Brash said: “I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet, it has been my dream to win Aachen, so to win is a dream come true, I am ecstatic.”

Of the €1 million bonue challenge, Brash added: “To win one leg is already hard enough, to win two is extremely difficult, to win three is going to be really hard, but it would be silly not to try so I will definitely try and win it,” he said.
