IRISH show jumping duo Shane Breen and Bertram Allen kept up almost relentless pressure at the five-star World Cup show in Stuttgart, Germany, last weekend, scoring top five places against formidable opposition.
Tipperary-born Breen, who opened the show with a win on Thursday aboard Wembley Farms Inc’s Calido Boy, claimed a third place on Friday on the same horse, and added a fourth later in the afternoon on the chesnut stallion Golden Hawk when competing in a 1.50m competition.
Nineteen year-old Bertram Allen, who won his debut World Cup class at Verona in Italy recently, had a third in the speed class at Stuttgart with Belmonde on Thursday night, and followed it with a fifth in Friday’s German Masters, won by local hero Ludger Beerbaum, who collected a Mercedes GLK 350 as his prize.
Allen and Breen were joined at the German show by Cameron Hanley and Jonathan Gordon (see above).
Meanwhile, at Neeroeteren in Belgium, Bertram’s 13-year-old brother Harry maintained family form with a win in the opening international pony class with the Irish-bred Attyrory Clover Lilly.
