Brilliant Brash

BRITAIN’S Scott Brash made history last weekend, by becoming the first rider to complete the Rolex Grand Slam of show jumping, winning the three equestrian majors consecutively and claiming a €1million bonus along with his winner’s prize from Sunday of $500,000.

Brash started his Grand Slam campaign by winning the Rolex Grand Prix at Geneva in December 2014. In May 2015, he then went on to claim the Rolex Grand Prix at Aachen, before completing the final part of this Grand Slam challenge in the CP International presented by Rolex during the Spruce Meadows Masters. The Scottish-born world No 1 said: “To complete the Rolex Grand Slam is beyond belief. I have a very special horse in Hello Sanctos, and some amazingly supportive owners in Lord and Lady Harris, and Lord and Lady Kirkham.”

Bertram back

IRELAND’s top-ranked rider, Bertram Allen, has been given the green light to return to action following his recent broken collarbone and is on course to line out at the Furusiyya Nations Cup final in Barcelona on Thursday.

Allen suffered the injury following a fall at a show in Austria on August 27th, however he has confirmed to The Irish Field that he is back in the saddle: “ I was back with the doctor on Thursday and he has given me the go-ahead to start riding again which is great. He is the same doctor as Micheal Jung (see A68), he is a lovely man, I got the train up to him in Hamburg. I sat back on a horse for the first time on Friday and I have a busy few weeks ahead now. Molly Malone will travel to Barcelona for the Furusiyya final while Romanov will get on a flight this weekend for the Los Angeles Masters the following week,” said Allen.
