THE Pony Show held at Kernan Equestrian Centre last Saturday was part of the SJI Ulster Region Pony Tour, kindly sponsored by TRI Equestrian (NI).

Saturday dawned a glorious day and an excellent day’s jumping ensued. The first jump-off class of the day was the 128 under 10s 85cms. Six of the starters went through to the jump-off with first to go India Heffron and Miss Susie’s excellent time of 32.53 seconds proving unbeatable giving her first place. Zara Jane Kelly had a very successful show taking second, third and fourth places in this prestigious event.

The other three jump-off classes were the 128 1m, 138 1.10m and 148 1.20m Mini Grand Prix classes.

First was the 128 1m where first and fifth place were taken by Camryn Clarke riding his mother Victoria’s Jackoo (36.72 secs) and Lackaghmore Barbie respectively. Second place went to Jenny Dunlop on Barrera Star Attraction. Third was taken by Tia Smith on Knockmenagh Rocco, Robert Russell was fourth on Kilcreenna Apollo and Katie McEntee on Renkum Silver Light were sixth.

In the 138 1.10m, four combinations went through to the jump-off but it was last to go Alex Finney who emerged victorious on Western Oreo in a time of 35.54secs producing the only double clear of the competition. Alex was in the ribbons again with her second place on her mother Jane’s Coltstown Dun Cruiser. Third place went to Annie Gibson on Ti Chip.

The last Mini Grand Prix event of the day was the 148 1.20m where again only four combinations jumped clear qualifying them for the jump-off. Two of these combinations jumped clear a second time. Ellen Thompson on Sligo Little James whose time of 45.53secs assured them of the leading position and red rosette relegating Hugo McAlpine and Loughnatousa in a time of 49.19secs to second. John McEntee on HHS Mustang Sally finished third.

The Children on Horses 1m class was divided between four competitors, Sadie McMahon on Creevagh Dilemma, Leah McVeigh on Cameroun, Jordyn Magill on Golden Korona and Daniel Moore on Scooby Bee.

First in the COH 1.10m/ 1.20m class went to Kathryn Morton on Tynan Dominic Blue in a time of 33.34secs.
