LAST Sunday at Kildare’s JAG Equestrian, young riders dominated proceedings, claiming five of the top six placings in the 1.35m section. Taking the win when clear in 30.76 was Kildare young rider Stephen Murphy, riding his father Brian’s mare Chantelle. Bred by amateur showjumper Gerry Traynor, Chantelle is an eight-year-old mare is by Lux Z out of Texaco’s Delphine.

Traynor has had much success with this mare, breeding eight foals from her. The mare’s full-sister Luxs Curios, owned by Brian Murphy, was campaigned by Michael and Stephen Murphy with much success.

Another full-sister, also bred by Traynor, Birchwood Holly has also been a big success for the Murphy family with a series of good results for his owner Patrick Murphy and Eoghan Murphy.

Resident rider at JAG, Daniel Fitzgerald was well supported by the home crowd when he finished second with the 13-year-old Irish-bred Mullentine Jetstream, clear in 31.56. Bred by George Allen from Co Armagh, the gelding is by Voltaire out of the Cruising-sired mare Mullentine Easyjet.

This combination moved up the ranks to 1.35m level this year and recorded their best result on the national circuit when finishing fourth in Ravensdale Lodge.

Wicklow rider, Darryl Walker represented the senior division and put his first points on the board when he took third place with Kiss N Fly, clear in 32.25.

Young rider Jennifer Kuehnle wasted no time with Ballistic MS, and a clear in 33.82 saw her account for fourth. Local rider Edward Doyle Jr also kept all the poles in place, albeit in a slower time of 34.15 with Billy Salsa for fifth place.

Grace McHugh and Berilos Vande de kalpe left nothing to chance and a clear in 37.67 proved good enough for sixth place in the line-up.

1.20M DIVISON

Kuehnle went better in the 1.20m and took the the win when she delivered a clear in 27.39 with Bliksem. Owned by Shaunagh Thomson, the 11-year-old gelding is by Chin Chin out of the Heatbreaker-sired mare Plescon.

This was the second good result for this charge having finished fourth in the Children on Horses speed class at the National Championships with Jennifer’s brother Brian earlier in the week. Charlotte Quinn and Unique took second place when they crossed the line clear in 37.33.

The Murphy family were back in the ribbons as Eoghan Murphy partnered Mondello Park to a clear in 37.36 for third.

Edward Doyle Jr returned to take another prize when he slotted into fourth place with Seaview Cruise, clear in 37.66, ahead of Lauren Haire and Kjenta JS in 42.32.

Edward Doyle’s (Snr) clear with the six-year-old Gilles in 37.95 ensured him sixth place in the line-up.
