LAST weekend, competitors in the young riders and children on horses’ divisions battled it out for their place at the five-star Dublin Horse Show.

There was a very high standard in the children on horses section where nine combinations delivered triple clears. Leading the victory lap here was Jess Widger riding Grantstown Charmer, who lodged a time of 33.01. Robyn Carey and CTS Peanuts galloped home in 35.80 for second, ahead of Lucy Morton riding Paul Boyle’s Delton, clear in 35.92. Aoife Drea qualified for the second year with Marguerite Ryan’s Sandballin when the pair clocked 36.20.

In the 1.10m/1.15m division, Ciaran Byrne took the win with Golden Puissance, when fastest of four triple clears in 36.81. Orla Queally’s careful riding with Fontanel Van T& L ensured her second place, clear in 42.25.

Placed sixth in the five-year-old class at Balmoral the previous Wednesday, Natasha Carolan and Inpulss were back in the line-up as they took third, clocking 42.07.

Caitlin Taggart and Amber Beach slotted into fourth when they stopped the clock in 44.08. Riding Eugene McEntee’s Diarado Royale, Mark Finnerty finished as the fastest of the four-faulters in 37.96 for fifth place, ahead of Kirsti Connole and Caher Lux Bravo, who also incurred four faults in 39.64.

1.25M/1.30M

Winners of the 1.25m/1.30m were Katie Conlon and the Marble Arch Equine LTD-owned Interpreter. The former mount of James Hogg, 13-year-old Interpreter recorded a host of impressive results up to 1.35m level before Conlon took over the ride in March. The new partnership has already has recorded a series of good results. The combination were the fastest of nine triple clears, in 40.28.

This was a very competitive class with 99 combinations going to post and, from those, the top five all came home within the 42-second mark. Gavin Smith partnered John Scally’s Renolli into second when clocking 40.35.

Jessica Foley and Quarrycrest Clover took third when they stopped the clock in 40.54 ahead of Ciaran Nallon and Bally Fair Deal in 40.68. Oisin Aylward filled the last remaining slot in this round with Jim O’Neill’s Castlefield Gucci, crossing the line in 41.08.

1.35M/1.40M

A familiar face in the young rider and senior arena, Sean Monaghan took the win in the 1.35m/1.40m qualifier, riding the Paddy Quinlan-owned Simone, clear in 39.53.

A past winner at the Dublin Horse Show, Anna Carway booked her RDS place with Claricella, clear in 40.02. Runner-up in the 1.35m Mervue Leinster Summer Tour at Barnadown, Matt Garrigan delivered another good result when he took third with MHS La Scala, posting a clear in 41.25. Thomas Foley will be making his return to the RDS when he partnered the former eventer Ballylynch Wizard into fourth, crossing the line with nothing to add in 41.26.
