LIAM O’Meara continued his unbelievable run of good form in Saturday’s round of the National Grand Prix league when winning what was to be his sixth victory of the 16-round league, not forgetting the two runner-up spots he also has to his credit.

Wins in Thomastown, Barnadown, Cavan, Galway and Charleville, as well as second places in Ballinasloe and Coilóg, means he is currently a massive 53 points ahead of his closest rival, Francis Connors, with a total of 79 points.

A total of 29 went to post, and of them a dozen were clear to earn a place in the jump-off round.

TIMED DECIDER

Of the 12, just eight opted to go forward to the timed decider with four withdrawing their mounts.

As has become almost expected of late, it was O’Meara and Curraghgraigue Jack Take Flight who posted a very fast jump-off time of 40.84, which couldn’t be caught by any of the other seven competitors.

Ger O’Neill and Billy Anchor came closest when they stopped the clock at 44.76, almost four seconds slower to occupy the runner-up spot.

Third place went to Matt Garrigan riding MHS La Scala in 47.98, while fourth place went to the only other clear round of the jump-off, Paul Beecher and Cruising Star in a time of 49.54.

Greg Broderick was the fastest four-faulter aboard Cartouche V Overis Z, in 45.81, and Francis Connors and Newmarket Clare Lady slotted into sixth place, in 52.15, with four faults to add.

The next and 14th round of the National Grand Prix league takes place next Monday, July 17th in Balmoral.
