TYRONE’s Anabelle Heffron was crowned Young Rider National Championship at Mullingar Equestrian Centre last Sunday after a series of consistent results in the 1.30m classes over the course of the show. Oisin Dillion, who was crowned Leading Junior National Champion, also delivered good results, while Jack Conlon Gateau was crowned the leading COH National Champion.

Last Friday, victory in the 1.30m young rider class belonged to Cian Harrison and Wannahave, who were fastest of five double clears in a time of 39.73 seconds. This was the first of two wins as the combination went on claim the 1.20 Championship last Sunday.

Katie Conlon opted for a calculated round aboard Ping Ball and crossed the line clear in 52.41 for second, with Charlotte Harding and Adonis W just behind in third (52.47). Heffron slotted into fourth place with Afrika when she answered all the questions in 53.27. Accounting for fifth place were David Lawler and Jm Penelope, who kept all the poles in place in 60.72. Sean Foley put in a very fast round with Ciano clocking 42.29, but it cost him dearly as he faulted once and had to settle for sixth.

Last Saturday’s 1.30m class went down to the wire and Abigail Boland claimed victory when she came home clear in 40.38. Boland was chased home by Robyn Fagan, fractions behind with Afram B in 40.41. Heffron slotted into third place when she partnered Afrika to a clear in 43.04. Victoria Thompson and Armani Velvet, who also kept all the poles in place in 44.20, were fourth. Stephen Murphy played it safe aboard Rupacino and it paid dividends as he took fifth place, clear in 52.32.

Speed merchant Sven Hadley proved that the time could be beaten when he clocked 36.97 with Ganorad, but it came at a price as he had one on the floor and had to settle for sixth. Hadley wasn’t too disappointed as he went on to claim the 1.30m Championship last Sunday.

1.10m

Last Friday’s winners of the 1.10m Welcome Stakes was Kirsti Connole and Zazu Van Terhofstede, who were clear in 33.35. Jack Conlon Gateau and Berlina, clear in 33.44, claimed the runner-up spot ahead of Oisin Dillon and SMC Molly, who were clear in 35.06. Last Sunday, Gateau added to his tally when he took second 1.20m with Berlina.

Sean Foley took the win in the 1.20m class when, riding Abeer, he delivered a clear in 38.93. Sven Hadley took two placings in this class. He delivered his best result aboard Vvood Stock De Breve, clear in 39.21 for second. He also took fourth with Ganorad, clear in 40.40. Separating Hadley’s two placings was Dylan Ward with Hardtimes, clear in 39.86.

It was a good outing for Hadley Sport Horses as Tori Dunn took the win in the 1.20m last Saturday. Riding Morningside Stud’s Ballistic M2S, she was fastest of six double clears in 32.70. Sean Foley was back in the ribbons, claiming second with Abeer, clear in 33.47, while in third were Carla McGarry and Alvarez, clear in 34.60.

Carla McGarry upped the ante to claim the 1.10m. Riding Clarkes Lux Clever, she delivered the winning round by going clear in 34.65. Two seconds behind weres Jack Conlon Gateau and Berlina KWPN, clear in 66.25, ahead of Lucy Shanahan and Woodbury Boy, clear in 69.66.

Championships

Last Sunday’s winner of the 1m Championship was Sven Hadley with Bobby’s Womanizer, after they went clear in 41.74. Hadley was chased home by Lauren Burke and Ballynagran Ark (clear in 47.72), with Sean Dooley and Killea Treacle, clear in 49.10, in third.

The winners of the 1.10m championship were Aoife McCabe and Carramore Oasis, who galloped home with nothing to add in 42.25. Claiming the runner-up spot was Jessica Lee with Harry Beau Bay, clear in 43.23, while in third was Kevin McCabe on Heritage Lvs Camille, clear in 44.55.
