LAST Sunday the overall TRI-sponsored championships were decided and following a full packed schedule of classes, the overall champions were crowned.
Taking the 128cms U10 was Senan Reape, the 128cms went to Katie McEntee, 138cms honours to Francis Derwin and the 148cms champion was Kate Derwin.
In the 128 60cms, Helen Walsh and Sparkling Little Princess put on a great display of horsemanship to deliver the fastest double clear in 26.56 seconds to take the title. Fractions behind, and riding McKay, was Alice Moloney in a time of 27.14 for second. In third place was Darragh Murphy and Rough Diamond in 27.54.
In the 128cm 70cms Championship, it was the Balmoral Champion Alanna Fagan and Gold Finch Spartacus who took the honours, clear in 25.21. Mackenzie Carmody and Cosmic Chaos took the runner-up spot, clear in 25.52, ahead of Caitlin Kelly and Tuity Fruity in 26.90.
Later in the day, Natalie McKenna took the 80cms crown when she lodged a clear in 22.86 aboard Jacodi’s Anja’s Admiral. In second place was Cormac Taggert and Baronagh Boy who broke the line beam in 23.46. Mackenzie Carmody and Cosmic Chaos returned to take another place in this championship when slotting into third, clear in 23.52. Jamie Clarke took victory in the under 10s when he piloted Phoenix Phantom to a clear in 29.65. Not content with the win, Clarke also took third place with Parc Creme Brulee, clear in 30.66. Separating Clarke’s placings was Senan Reape and Garryndruig Ringo Star in 30.60.
Winners of the 90cms championship on Thursday, Alexandra Hourigan and Little Rock Hopscotch added to their tally when they took the 90cms championship title. The combination lodged the winning clear in 23.62. Maeve Clarke and Lenamore Mini Metro were hot on the winner’s heals when they lodged a clear in 23.91, ahead of Natasha Foley and Araglen Minuska in 24.23 for third.
Kilkenny rider Emma Lawler took the 1m crown when she crossed the line aboard Miss Charming in a time of 26.16. Kian Dore tried hard to take this title but he had to settle for second place when he posted a clear with Miss Giggles in 27.92. Dore also took third place with Parc Pixie, clear in 28.75. He made no mistakes in the 1.10m championship when he crossed the line with Kilcreene Basil in a time of 34.60.
The Limerick rider also accounted for third with Drumcaghey Jacko in 34.28 with four faults. Dividing Dore’s placings was Robyn Lee and Little Lord of the Hills, galloping home in 36.82.
Darragh Murphy and Lady Zee took the first 138cms crown when they galloped home in 24.98 to claim the 80cms. Natasha Foley had her sights firmly focused on the win, but a clear in 25.36 proved only good enough for second.
It was a well worthwhile journey for Stephen Gibbons from the west as he partnered Mayfield Celebration to a clear in 26 seconds for third. Winners of the national league final, Connor Harris and Lenamore Lena demonstrated their talents as they emerged victors of the 90cms Championship when they lodged a clear in 25.47.
Heather Clarke and April Star had a great week at the championships and they ended it on a good note to takee second in 26.47. Tom O’Shea and Coppenagh Celtic Diva opted for a more cautious approach and it paid off as they were clear in 28.29 for third.
Winner of the 1m was Ellen Thompson when she lodged the winning round with Lisross Diamond Skye in 26.87, ahead of Louise Keane and Jacky Chan in 27.48. Little divided the next placing as Niamh Flinter and Fan the Flowers lodged a clear in 27.57 for third.
RDS champion Alex Finney put in a gallant display when she crossed the line aboard Keoghan Boy almost six seconds faster than her closest rival in 30.95 to claim the title. Niamh McEvoy’s clear with Sparkling Boomadonna in 35.32 saw her slot into second ahead of Amy-Leigh McCauley and Sunny in 36.30.
No stranger to the winners’ enclosure, Max Foley and Mayfly Green Peter took the crown in the 1.20m when one of only two double clears in 38.76. Alex Finney and her winning RDS mount Dolly du Carel were less than a fraction of a second behind in 39.57, ahead of Francis Derwin and Ruby Brown (32.11) on four.
148cmS
Waterford rider Emma Byrne got the ball rolling in the 148cms ring when she took the 90cms championship. Riding Coco Baby, she lodged the winning clear in 25.42. Byrne was chased home by Saoirse Lehane who delivered a clear with Quarrybell Rebel in 28.95. Making the long trip from Co Tyrone, Alana Roulston finishing in third place when she delivered a clear with Derryvane Storm in 29.11.
In the 1m, it was Saoirse Curran and Aherlow Boy who took the title when clear in 26.83, ahead of Tom O’Shea and Tynan Cappuccino in 27.26. Accounting for third place were Jennifer Torrens and Bellinden Gagin, clear in 28.40.
On form, Saoirse Curran also took the 1.10m with Aherlow Boy, clear in 21.29, while Cian Goggins and Dark Silk had to settle for second when clear in 21.22. Aisling McGuinness and Black Assasin took third when they crossed the line clear in 22.37.
Galway rider Rachel McAlinden took the 1.20m title when she partnered Lovely Jovely to a clear in 28.42. Almost six seconds behind and accounting for second place were Chloe Fagan and Boo Radley in 35.11, while in third were Niall Butler and Vasall B, clear in 38.71.
Following on from her success at the European Championships, Kate Derwin ended the week on a high note as she took victory in the 1.30m championship. Riding Cul Ban Mistress, she scorched home with nothing to add in 40.77. Derwin also took second place when she delivered a clear with Master Stevie G in 52.48. Accounting for third place were Eve Donnelly and Rincoola Babog, on four in 48.49.
Children on Horses
Victory in the Children on Horses 1.10/1.15m Championship went to Harriet Penfold when she lodged the winning round of four faults in a time of 37.39. Seamus Hennessy and Ballynoe Carnival Girl took the runner-up spot when also carrying four faults in 44.69. Just a single time fault kept Eabha Cassidy and Consul Lux out of the jump-off but it was enough for third.
