LURGAN College will be one of the teams taking part in the Bluegrass Horse Feeds schools team show jumping open championship at next month’s Balmoral Show following their win in last Sunday’s final qualifier at Lusk EC.

This round of the five-legged series should have taken place in early March but had to be postponed because of the weather and conditions were a lot better for this 1m class on Sunday. The winning team comprised just three riders but, as she had a second horse, Katie Good rode both Estella and Queen Of Coins, while Chloe Harrison was on board Paradise Cavalier and Jasmine Crothers partnered Estella Great Expectations.

The individual 1m class winner was Victoria Lee of the Royal School Armagh, riding Duffy, who got the better of Amy Tubman on Connie and Jill McGettigan with Watermill Hollie.

This has been a very busy period at Lusk EC where they staged a qualifier for the Balmoral/Knott’s Bakery young event horse championship on Tuesday, April 10th, just two days after holding a very successful Garden Event, their first of 2018.

The schedule that day included an Acorn class for those starting out in eventing. The arena section consisted of 10 jumps, a mixture of show jumps and cross-country-type fences. The cross-country section was extra small but did include a paddle through the water.

Sarah Whiteside kept the dressage arena going all day and the response from the riders was so positive that dressage will be a feature of the Garden Events at Lusks in the future.
