THE latest leg of the TRI Equestrian Interschools League took place on a beautiful sunny day at Galway Equestrian Centre last Saturday. As the league is nearing the final which takes place on April 15th, there was great excitement in both novice and open arenas. Two super tracks were built by the O’Brien family at the Galway Equestrian Centre venue.
There were six local teams competing for the win in the novice arena with Presentation Tuam and Salerno College both earning a place in the jump-off with Presentation Tuam just pipping Salerno for the win with riders Eabha Watson, Anna Leufer, Anna Mooney and Ciara Mannion.
Salerno Secondary School with riders Molly Stafford, Karly Tierney, Kate Mulligan and Grainne made their school very proud with their second place position after a jump-off.
In the novice individuals, there were four joint winners with Gary Dooley of Carandulla NS, Kate Henry of Salerno Secondary School, Keeva Crudden of Calasanctius College and Orlaith de Bairead of Salerno Secondary School all taking first spot.
In the open competition there were two visiting teams that made it to the jump-off with Newbridge College and Gorey Community College trying for the 10 points.
NEWBRIDGE ON TOP
Newbridge College riders Caragh Sweeney, Leah Heffernan, Niamh Flinter and Niamh Behan came out on top after a very speedy jump-off with Gorey riders Jessica Murphy, Emma Carton, Emma Steacy and Michelle Hughes taking second place.
The open individuals was won by Niamh Behan from Newbridge College with Cara Crudden of Calasanctius College taking second.
The 1.10cms HSI qualifier was won by Emma Steacy on Castlemore Cailin from Gorey Community College.
The last leg of the TRI Equestrian Interschools League will take place tomorrow (Sunday) at Duffy’s Equestrian Centre in Claregalway, hosted by Salerno Secondary School, Salthill.
