ALONG with a full schedule of senior classes, Cavan Equestrian Centre also played host to a range of classes for Young Riders and Children on Horses last weekend. As in previous years, this section of classes was well supported with an abundance of young talent from around the country battling it out for the honours.
On Friday, taking the 1.10m Young Rider class were Rachel Kyne and Hold That Thought. Sophie Dunne was close on Kyne’s heels, as she took second place with Nessika Du Courtil. Slotting into third were Seamus Hennessy and Ballynoe Crusing Riot, ahead of Sven Hadley riding Shona Lynch’s Bobby’s Womanizer. Accounting for fifth place were Evan Burke and Quales Mermus, while in sixth was Sasha Reardon on Guidam Clover.
A prolific winner at Cavan, Galway’s Sven Hadley added to his record as he led the victory lap in the 1.20m aboard Susan Stewart’s Hawkswings. Maddison Boyd put in a solid performance with Penny Campbell’s Amarulla for second place. Also in the ribbons of late, Brendan Murphy added to his haul when he partnered Sandra Duffy’s Cruising Kilkee into third. Seamus Hennessy was back in the ribbons, filling fourth place with Ballynoe Glynnwood Joy, ahead of Shannon Lavinia Wilson and Casallasca. UCD student Kayleigh Soden took completed the line-up, slotting into sixth place with Juliana.
Upping the ante
Last Saturday, Shannon Lavinia Wilson upped the ante to take the victory in the 1.10m – Junior, Young Rider (Under 25) and COH with Casallasca. Bally Fair Deal was back in the line-up, this time not with Ciaran Nallon, but with his sister Katie, who partnered the mare into the runner-up spot. Third place belonged to Dermot Mcalaney and Flighty Sally, ahead of Charlotte Harding and Crossmaglen Bandit. A calculated round saw Elanor Lavin and Little Ash McDee take fifth, while in sixth was Kitty Harburn riding John Scally’s Mullinroe.
On form over the course of the show, Seamus Hennessy made no mistakes in the 1.20m – Junior, Young Rider (Under 25) and Children on Horses class to take the win aboard Ballynoe Glynnwood Joy. Also, back in the line-up was Maddison Boyd, who took the runner-up place with Amarulla. Accounting for third place in this hard-fought class was Isabelle Flynn on Newmarket Amber, ahead of Aaron Killoran and Flyover Pernod. Fifth place belonged to Anna Baynes and Lochan Ramiro, while on this occasion Sophie Dunn and Strawberry Passion took sixth.
Championship finals
Last Sunday, the scene was set for what was to be an exciting young rider championship final. In the first of those championships, Rachel Kyne rose to the challenge for the second time as she took the win in the 1.10m - Junior, Young Rider (Under 25) and Children on Horses Championship with Hold That Thought.
Lewis Trenier put in a calculated round with Royana De Clairias for second, while in third was Isabell Flynn with Newmarket Amber. Brendan Murphy returned to the line-up, taking fourth with Sandra Duffy’s Ja Belle Stability, ahead of Erin McCormack and Seskin John. Accounting for sixth was Teaghan Eamonn Burns, riding Geraldine Ferran’s Mirdads Jebreeel.
In the 1.20m - Junior, Young Rider (Under 25) and Children on Horses Championships, Lewis Trenier upped the ante to take the win aboard Trickin Around. Trenier was chased home by Sarah Moore and Scooby Bee, while in third were Sven Hadley and Jessy Van De Heide. Oliver Penfold accounted for the next two slots, taking fourth with Chatsworth Danielleand fifth with Sportsfield Silvery Fox. Completing the top-six line-up was Hugo McAlpine and Sully.
As expected, the 1.35m – Young Rider(U25) and Junior Grand Prix went down to the wire and in the end, Aisling McGuinness and Kilderrys Joint Venture took the win. Robyn Fagan put in a gallant attempt with Afram B but had to settle for second place ahead of Hugo McAlpine and Cyrano De Boisquillon. Kerrie Kerr and Marbleach slotted into fourth, ahead of Lewis Trenier and Trickin Around. Sven Hadley claimed sixth with Fintan Devanney’s Frank Flash.
