IT was a bumper weekend of showjumping at Cavan Equestrian as pony riders travelled from near and far to take part in the popular three-day Home Pony International Show. Last Sunday, it came down to serious business as the championships and Coolmore Grands Prix were decided.
Jamie Clarke and Phoenix Phantom made their mark on home turf as they took the win in the 128 90cms championship. Claiming the runner-up place was Maeve Clarke riding the ever-reliable Lenamore Mini Metro. In third were Daisy McNamara and Lambay Off Broadway. Not content with the win, Jamie Clarke also took fourth with Parc Creme Brulee. Maisie Adams and Dimples Dilema’s careful riding ensured them fifth place, ahead of Maeve Clarke and Essenar Eaney Meaney.
Leading the victory lap in the HWS Equipment 138 90cms Championship were Benjamin Moore and Seapatrick Make A Move, ahead of Calum McVeigh and Gaulstown Lady Bishop. Kate Rohan occupied third with Thomastown Quest, while Zuwena Barrett and Sand Bishopscourt Lad slotted into fourth. Accounting for fifth were Connor Harris and Lenamore Lena, and completing the top six line-up were Ciara Daly and Carnhill Snowy.
Winner of the HWS Equipment 138cm 1m Championship was Yiayan Evans riding Marsh Kyfe’s Glenvar Sparky. Benjamin Moore was back in the line-up, this time taking the runner-up spot with Seapatrick Make A Move. Conor Harris also picked up another good placing when he slotted into third with Lenamore Lena. Ciara Daly improved on her earlier performance when she partnered George Moore’s Carnhill Snowey into fourth, ahead of Billie-Jean Lynch and Derryvane Sea Mist. Zuwena Barrett added to her tally when she took eventual sixth with Bishopscourt Lad.
In the 148 90cms championship it was Charlotte Greer riding Ryans Mystery who claimed the title. Despite a gallant attempt from Elisha McNamara and Indie Sahara, they had to settle for second. Oisin Dillon’s solid performance with Newtown Melody saw him claim third, ahead of Katelynn and Castlehill Duke. Dillion also accounted for fifth with Diamond’s Rosscon Ted B. In sixth place were Tilly Walsh and Jackie Legs.
A familiar face in the winners’ enclosure, Lewis Trenier emerged victorious in the 148cms 1m championship with Timmy McCormick’s Princess Nora. Trenier was chased home by Darragh Perrin, who was riding Lough Key Camouflage. In third was Peter O’Keeffe riding Attyrory Early Addition, ahead of Tilly Walsh and Jackie Legs. Fifth place belonged to Morgan Carthy and Callow Larry, ahead of Zara Herbert and Orenok.
The 148 1.10m championship came down to the wire, but in the end it was Annie Courtney Cadam and Attrory Clover Lily who took the win. Lewis Trenier put in another good performance with Latimer Lad to take the runner-up spot. Orla Duffy and Sunny Jr accounted for third place, ahead of Alana Roulston and Derryvane Storm. Finishing in fifth place was Oliver Penfold riding Bullaun Boy, while sixth belonged to Gavin Daly and Ballylee Misty Boy.
GRAND PRIX CLASSES
Taking the win in the 128 85cms Coolmore-sponsored Under 10’s Grand Prix were Lauren Adams and Dimples Dilema, clear in 33.69. Winner at Balmoral, Alanna Fagan added to her impressive record when she partnered Little Bob into second, clear in 36.17 Accounting for third were Ben Connors and Just Little, clear in 40.93, ahead of Zara Jane Kelly riding Ballyglunin Girl, clear in 42.60. It was a worthwhile trip from Warrington, Co Kilkenny, as Alice Moloney and Fearr An Star took fifth when clear in 46.46. Ruben Hall and Wishfields Missy Moo’s decision to take the safe route paid off as they crossed the line with nothing to add, in 56.29, for sixth.
Coen Williams made his trip from Clare worthwhile as he rode to victory in the Coolmore 128 1.05m. Riding Lakefield Stormy, he lodged the winning clear in 33.69. Not content with the victory, he also took second place with Parc Giggles, clear in 34.50. In third were Zuwena Barrett and Dunbarover, who also maintained a clean sheet in 36.68. Alice Wachman accounted for the next two placings when she partnered Little Jack Spratt into fourth (42.37) and fifth with Murphy’s Spartacus (44.42), both clear. Sixth place belonged to Anna White and Muskerry Crusader, who were last of the double clears, clocking 45.07.
RDS and Coolmore Pony Premier Series Champion, Tom Wachman dominated the Coolmore Stud 138cms Grand Prix when claiming first and third place in the line-up. Wachman led the victory lap with Fountain Ranger when, as last to go in the five-way jump-off, he clocked the winning time of 31.66.
It was a win-win for the Wachman family as Rhys Williams partnered Kate Wachman’s Sligo Lux To Queenie into the runner-up spot, clear in 34.58. Third to go in the jump-off, Wachman proved out of luck with Youghal Paddy when faulting at the penultimate and crossed the line in 31.73 for third.
Evie Quirke and Miss Mull had an unlucky four faults at the last in 33.94 for eventual fourth. Williams returned to claim fifth place with the Flash Man when incurring four at the second fence and clocking 41.01 for fifth.
It was certainly a good outing for the Wachman family as Max Wachman accounted for two placings in the Coolmore-sponsored 148 1.25m Grand Prix. Third last to go in the jump-off aboard Diamond, he lodged the winning clear in 34.79. Rhys Williams had to settle for the runner-up spot for the second time when he crossed the line with Clagged Gypsy Delight, clear in 35.43.
Orla Duffy and Atlanta were clear in 37.82 for third, and Max Wachman added to his impressive results when he partnered Blessington Grange Mist into fourth (37.90) and Augnashammer into fifth (38.60), both clear. Last to go in the 14-way jump-off, Gavin Daly gave it his all with Carnhill Bertas Lad but four faults in 37.19 proved only good enough for sixth.
