AFTER four tough days of competition at Mullingar Equestrian, the TRI Equestrian Pony Championships came to an exciting end last Sunday with the championship titles being decided.

In the 128 U10 Gemma Buckley was crowned champion, while Senan Reape took the 128cm crown. Max Foley added another title to his record when taking the 138cm crown, while the 148cm title belonged to Aisling McGuinness.

TRI Championships

The action kicked off with the 128cm division. In the 128cm 1.10m, just three double clears were delivered and the fastest of those was lodged by Lauren Murphy. Riding Tanya Clarkin’s Moyralla Bob, the Co Westmeath rider crossed the line in 35.57 seconds to take the win. It was a good day for Lauren as she also went on to claim the 138 1m Championship with The Bulls Eye. Airing on the side of caution paid off for Kian Dore as he lodged a clear with Dooneens Electric in 38.50 for second. In third place was Kilkenny’s Emily Moloney and Expresso, clear in 51.66 seconds.

Claiming victory in the TRI Equestrian 128 U10 85cm Championship was Lauren Adams who galloped home aboard Killaloe Gypsy in 27.01. Senan Reape was back on the podium as he partnered Flying Star (Ihb) to a clear in 27.22. Juliette McIntosh clocked 27.86 with Twin Cam for third.

Leading the victory lap in the 128cm 70cm Championship were Helen Walsh and Donecoy Beauty, clear in 21.61. Claiming the runners-up spot were Sophia Bingham and Blaencrymlyn Super Trooper, clear 23.29, ahead of Jack de Bromhead and Wishworthy Jack Norey, clear in 23.70.

Taking the win in the 128 80cm Championship was Natasha Foley when she galloped home with Araglen Minuska, in 21.30, ahead of Barry Carr and Trendy Taz in 21.81. Accounting for third place were Jayden Duffy and Shin A Will, in 22.05.

Ellen Powers and Sasha emerged victorious in the 128 90cm Championship when they crossed the line with nothing to add in 26.59, ahead of Kym Moore and Oaklea Supreme in 30.58.

Local rider Evie Welton also maintained a clean record sheet with Piggy Bank, in 32.20 for third.

Winner of the 128cm four and five-year-old Gateau Stables Young Pony Series, Brid Ryan added to her tally when she took the win in the 128 1m Championship.

This time riding Drombane Liath, she delivered the only double clear, in 37.49.

138 Championships

Claiming victory in the 138 80cm Championship was Natasha Foley who posted a flawless performance with Jerpoint Dancer in 28. Foley was chased home by Cadhla Cunningham and Milford Lad in 28.51, while third place was filled by Darragh Murphy and Kreme, clear in 28.65.

It was a well worthwhile journey from Armagh for Benjamin Moore who took the win in the 138cm 90 Championship. Riding Seapatrick Make A Move, he delivered the fastest of only two double clears in 31.89. The only other clear was delivered by Emma Taylor and Knockagaron Fear Bui Falcon, in 35.86.

Stephen Gibbons and The Hilly Billy were back on the podium as they took the win in the 138cm 1.10m, clear in 23.36. A clear in 25.77 was enough to secure John Martin Kirrane and Nighlady second, ahead of Matthew Sheehan and Cuffesgrange In It To Win It, clear in 25.78.

Alex Finney dominated the 138cm 1.20m Championship. Riding Western Oreo, she was fastest of four double clears in 37.43. Finney also took second with Dolly Du Carel, almost beating her own time when clocking 37.68. Max Foley was back in the ribbons, taking third with Mayfly Green Peter, celar in 37.71.

Last of the double clears was Matthew Conlon and Glenford Clausa (CPBS), in 38.92.

148cm

Leading the victory lap in the 148cm 90cm was Samantha Bretzer who put in a blistering round with Lishmar Timmy, clear in 21.33. Her closest rivals were Michaela Tuffy and Cappacurry Candy Crush who crossed the line clear in 24.24.

Saoirse Curran and Aherlow Boy, delivered the winning round in the 1m Championship when they crossed the line in 24.50. Claiming the runners-up spot were Sarah Ronan and Allihies Super Star, clear in 28.76, ahead of Hallie Crowe and Derrylough Hugo, in 33.26.

Robyn Moran and Henrietta Star ended their championship on a high note when taking the win in the 1.10 Championship, clear in 27.54. Little separated the next placing as Olivia Shanahan and Diamond clocked 27.84. Moran put in another great performance with Doe Mate, clocking 28.27 for third.

Winner of the 148cm Coolmore Premier the day before, Aisling McGuinness added another win to her record when she partnered Calimero to a clear in 36.80 in the TRI Equestrian 148 1.30m Championship. Almost four seconds behind in 41.01 and taking second place was Katie Power and Ghost Rider. Niamh McEvoy and Fireman also delivered a foot-perfect performance but in the slower time of 42.54, for third. McEvoy also took the runner-up place in the 138cm 1m Championship, ahead of Alexandra Kerins O’Brien and Tyson.
