JAG Equestrian’s Winter League final took place last weekend, kindly sponsored by TRI Equestrian. The league drew in large numbers each week with riders contesting for qualification and league points. Newcastle Lyons Pony Club and The Kildares were amongst some of the competitors. Grassroot riders were out in force, all coming home with double clears and collecting fantastic league prizes and prizes on the day.

The two leading rider prizes of €500 vouchers were up for grabs with both section A and B having only one point between them. Taking first place in Section A was Alexandra Butler and Carrig Dun with a total of 35 points. Alexandra also took home two other placing on the day. Close on her heels was Pippa Gaffney with Amber on 34 points.

The fastest round of the day came from the one metre class with Jessica Sheridan and Sulas stopping the beam in 41.06, allowing her claim first place in both the league and on the day. The 1.10m and 1.20m was won by Aimee Heavy and Gloutane Pearl with Jessica Flood and Dakota finishing second in the 1.10m. Section B came down to the wire with both riders ending up on equal points and a jump-off was needed to decide who was taking home the €500 TRI Leading rider. First to go was Lucy Gaffney on Phillip Gaffney’s Zazu, stopping the clock with an unfortunate four faults in 43.38. Luky Lennord’s Twister D’Euro and Anna Lennord jumped clear in 46.15 to claim the title for 2020.
