MARY Frances Corcoran emerged victorious from a very large field in the TRI Equestrian intermediate show jumping division at the Riding Clubs Festival.

Just over half of the 100 starters made it through to the jump-off where Corcoran crossed the beam ahead of the field to claim the spoils. It was a narrow victory for the Freshford resident as her time of 31.22 gave her 0.05 second advantage over second-placed Gavin Keenan (Ardgaineen Waltzer) from Benbulben.

The Sligo-based club had better luck in the power and speed class where Rachel Burke produced a very quick time of 28.30 on Rookery Blue to finish ahead of North Cork’s Erin Morris (Into The Clouds) on 29.94.

Peter Dargan improved on his previous outing at the Riding Clubs Festival to win the TRI Equestrian advanced intermediate division. Eleven riders made it through to the jump-off but the Kilrainy member edged a narrow victory on Temple Cruise over Carne’s Sue Corish on Killinick Bouncer.

Meanwhile, Julie Anne Prenderville won the power and speed class. The Co Meath rider was runner-up in 2015. Her time of 31.30 on Mr Grange Benjamin kept her just ahead of Corrib’s Aisling McGrath on Ti Amo Darcy on 31.90.McGrath, however, made up for her disappointment after the Corrib rider claimed the table a speed class, the following day, with a commanding margin over Chloe Daly (Bagheara) from Greenvalley.

Visiting riders from East Cheshire Combined Training Group filled the top two places in the TRI Equestrian open and advanced open show jumping class. Very little separated the riders with Ashley Daniel claiming the spoils on Abba. Her time of 44.07 kept her just ahead of her clubmate Amy Lennon on Gortmore Rose Bud who crossed the beam on 44.17.

Caoimhe Delaney picked up the winner’s rosette in the power and speed class on Daring to Dream where the Winterdown rider held a commanding lead over Castle Leslie’s Ann Bowe (Little Breege).

Niall McGrath jumped the only clear round in the Table A speed class to take the red rosette on Riogrande for Castle Carraig.

The advanced primary competition drew large entries with 67 riders where 13 made it through to the jump-off for the optimum time.

Earl’s Well rider Victoria Costelloe claimed the spoils after CW Coco stopped the clock on 51.17, which was nearest the target of 57 seconds. Killcarrick’s Shane Cowley was next best in a time of 48.50 on Its Cool To Be King

The Clonlara duo of Catherine Normoyle (Miss Murphy) and Siobhan Geary (Rangers Choice) won the pairs.

Twelve riders made it through to the second round of the primary division where Ruth Dargan produced a perfect round on Picassos Colours, in a time of 62.42, to win the honours. Rathfarnham’s Daire Guidera was next best, in a time of 52.52, on Firestarter. Guidera, however, won the veterans’ class when he recorded one of just two double clear rounds. Elsewhere, Claire Nulty claimed the young horse class on her four-year-old chesnut gelding, Sceilig Jedi, after the Highland Lodge rider jumped the only clear round.
