Nelson dominates

EUROPEAN pony eventing bronze medallist, Zara Nelson dominated the CCIP class at Weston Park in Britain last weekend filling the top-two places on the podium.

Nelson took the winners prize with Millridge Buachaill Bui (ISH), while she also took runner-up spot with Knockbordan Revelation. Meanwhilein the CCI* class at Weston Park, Ireland’s Declan Cullen finished in eighth place with Seavaghan Ash (ISH)(TIH).

Pender victory

MIKEY Pender and the Connemeara Pony Cul Ban Mistress, finished as runners-up in the Grand Prix at Chevenez in Switzerland last week. Pender also scored a win in an earlier 1.20m class with Carlton Diva, while Harry Allen took fifth spot with Athlet Greenfield.

Pender scored another win in last Friday’s 1.25m class with Cul Ban Mistress, with Charlotte Houston third aboard Blessington Grange Mist (ISH) and Cormac Foley in fourth aboard Crown Jewel, while Harry Allen finished fifth riding Athlet Greenfield.

Top six finish

ANNA Carway scored two top six placings at Chevenez last week, including a third place finish in the Grand Prix with Ajaccio. The Kilkenny rider also finished fifth in the Accumulator class riding Winner.

Gordon win

IRELAND’S Jonathan Gordon claimed a decisive win with Fellini 131 in the recent €24,500 1.50m world ranking speed class at the two-star show in Pottmes, Germany. The same partnership had previously impressed at Bietigheim-Bissenger in Germany when claiming success in the European youngster cup and BW Indoor Championship qualifier.

Clarke features

CO MEATH’S Gerard Clarke finished ninth in last Sunday’s Grand Prix at the two-star show in Dunkerque riding Rafiki, while the same pairing finished ninth in last Saturday’s Prix Champagne 1.40m.

Kenny best placed

DARRAGH Kenny was the best-placed Irish rider in last Sunday’s two-star Grand Prix at Vilamoura. The Offaly rider finished the jump-off with four-faults aboard Picolo to finish fourth, with Brazilian rider Marlon Zanotelli taking the winners prize with Sea Coast Ferly.

McMahon fifth

CO CLARE’S Eoin McMahon scored a fifth place finish in the Grand Prix at Riesenbeck in Germany last Sunday with the nine-year-old Regillo gelding Bling Bling 2. Victory went to American rider Chloe Reid with the Irish Sport Horse Codarco.

Hughes in top 10

MARION Hughes was in action in North Africa last weekend, scoring a 10th place finish in the three-star 1.60m Grand Prix at Rabat in Morocco. Hughes, riding Can Ya Makan, went clear in the opening round but lowered two fences against the clock in a class won by former world No 1 Pius Schweizer with PSG Future.

Kelly placed

CAPT Michael Kelly travelled to the CSI*** show at Kiel in Germany last week and scored an eighth place finish in the 1.55m Grand Prix. Kelly and the Irish Sport Horse, Ringwood Glen, produced a double clear round but couldn’t catch German winner Hans-Thorben Rüder riding Orlanda.

Hanley fourth

CAMERON Hanley was also in action at the German venue and finished fourth in last Friday’s 1.40m speed class with Chita behind Felix Haussmann who scored a home win with Balance.

Shortt second

Kilkenny-born Sue Shortt was in action at the two-star show at Beijing in China last weekend and scored a runner-up finish in a competition that was part of the China League last Wednesday riding the seven-year-old gelding Yu Long Qi Ji.
