THE Connemara gelding Lough Derg Star has enjoyed a lot of success of late, mostly recently winning the ridden Heritage championship at last Saturday’s Irish Pony Society Northern Area autumn show in Knockagh View Equestrian, where he went on to stand supreme champion.

The eight-year-old, who was bred in Co Clare by Marie Collins, was ridden on Saturday by owner Zoe Price’s daughter Holly Logan, who was also on board the bay when he won the Challenge Heritage Connemara class and went overall champion in that section at the recent British Show Pony Society championships in Grantham.

There, he was also partnered by Jessica Murphy (who only sat up on him for the first time on the Tuesday) to win the 80cm training stakes and the Simply The Best ridden Heritage championship before going on to take supreme Heritage of show title. Logan also recorded a number of individual placings at Grantham on Price’s eight-year-old Connemara mare Owens Shadow, with whom she was a member of the first Irish squad to win the inter-country working hunter team competition.
